| THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2026 | 35 Men's Golf By Greg Gries Weekly golf continues with individual, scramble, and shamble games. The CMGC Board is meeting regularly and working on improvements to the club. Our membership drive was successful, and we have three new members to celebrate: Joe Cwirka, Jim Nachtigal and Phil Johnson. More collaboration is being made with the local high schools, and you might see us playing with students and coaches more often. The golf course seems to be keeping up with the green growth, and the greens are in pretty good condition. The men's club is looking for Colony resident golfers of all abilities to join us. Membership benefits are weekly fun events mixed with individual events to improve your game and handicap. We have monthly luncheons, two major championships a year, and a year-end Awards Banquet. We also sponsor the charity Pancake Breakfasts twice a year to raise money for high school student scholarships. Last year we raised over $3,000, thanks to Colony generosity and the team of golfers who can cook. If you would like to join us or renew your membership, there are paper membership forms in the pro-shop on the counter by the door, or you can contact George Herrera at 760-533-0350. You can also visit our website at http://colonymensgolf.net for more information. If you want to play golf with us, contact me at 951-383-9988 or gggriffes@gmail.com. Colony Couples 2Ball By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 After a two-month hiatus due to conflicts and rain, we finally launched the 2026 season with eight full teams of six for nine holes on a gorgeous afternoon. We had some difficulties fielding the teams to full capacity, but when all settled, the tournament was fully attended and we had a fun afternoon. When the final score cards were adjudicated and the Bogy Hole adjustments made, Team #3, Robert and Denise Sturm, Malcolm Grant and Sherry Roberts, and David and Donna MacLagan made the initial adjustments to climb from the gross score [literally] bottom of 40 strokes to the winners of the event with a net score of 28. Due to the adjustments on holes 2, 3 and 4, that's a 12-stroke swing. The team that scored the lowest gross score went from first to next to last after the adjustments were made. Never ever count yourself out in this happy-to-lucky event. Give me a call or drop me an email at dmurph44@vrizon.net if you are interested in joining us. I will send you a 2026 tournament schedule, rules of the game and include you in our active mailing list. Our next contest is March 5. Requirements are to be able to grasp a club. You aren't required to be a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly afternoon of fun. See you on the links! It's called the Dooley Scramble, which is named after our beloved "Mayor of The Colony," as we called him, Don Dooley. He was a true ambassador for The Colony and the Men's Club. He now lives closer to his family back East. The Dooley Scramble is a fun, easy-going game with lots of bent rules and friendly players. Men and women are invited to play and pick their own partners. In February, we had 24 players and most of them stayed after the game for lunch on the bocce court. Our March game will be on Monday, March 2. Please let us know if you would like to play in the Dooley game. You can contact Greg Griffes at 951-383-9988 or gggriffes@gmail.com. Peggy Clendenen & Leo Pasco
