Tap dancing brings a unique kind of happiness — movement that becomes music, effort that becomes rhythm, and practice that becomes pride. As the group likes to say, "Tap dancing is the most joyful way to make noise on purpose." And it's true. Each shuffle, flap, and heel dig adds to a chorus of cheerful sound that lifts the spirits of everyone in the room. If you've ever been curious about tap — or simply want a lively, social way to stay active — this is your chance. The Sun Lakes Tappers welcome new dancers with open arms, plenty of patience, and a whole lot of laughter. Come make some joyful noise with us. Beginning Tap class, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am to 12 pm in the North Clubhouse. Tap shoes are provided, and the fee is $40 per month. We celebrated the arrival of the Year of the Horse, a symbol of energy, strength, elegance, and forward movement. In Chinese culture, the Horse represents determination, enthusiasm, and the courage to chase one's dreams — and that vibrant spirit could be felt throughout the event. From the moment guests arrived, there was a sense of joy and anticipation. The dancers were flawless, performing in breathtaking costumes that filled the space with color and international flair. The Lunar New Year is a time of renewal, gratitude, family and hope. While the holiday originated in China, it is celebrated across many Asian cultures, each bringing its own music, dance, and traditions. Our program reflected that rich diversity with a wonderful "journey around the world" through dance and song. At the heart of the IDS Chinese Dance Group is our remarkable instructor Hai Yan Jackson, who trained in Ballet, Jazz and Classical Chinese Folk Dance in Chengdu, China. Since moving to Sun Lakes in 2018, Hai Yan has enriched our community with her artistry, dedication, and joyful spirit. We are fortunate to have her as part of the IDS family. The afternoon featured diverse entertainment: Korean, Egyptian, Hawaiian, Folkloric and Chinese dances, as well as solo and duet singing performances. Beyond the entertainment, the afternoon was filled with delicious food, festive giveaways, laughter, and heartfelt connections. From all of us to all of you, Happy Lunar New Year! Country Western Dance Hello Dancers! Our Line Dance lessons have been buzzing with energy and high turnout. During each lesson, we review the dances we learned in previous sessions as well as learn one or two new dances. Our teacher has many years of experience teaching seniors and is happy to modify steps for members with limited physical abilities. Line dance is an excellent cardiovascular workout known for its fun factor, not to mention a fantastic opportunity to make new friends and build social connections. Experienced line dancers and quick learners are welcome to join the club at any time during the year. Beginners should wait until classes restart in September 2026. Dues are $20 per year and there is a $3 fee per class. For more information on the club, contact Judy Kirstein at (801) 580-2232 or Lisa Flower at (310) 993-5027.
