| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2026 | 57 POP Tennis POP Tennis, formerly known as Paddle Tennis, is a fun, fast sport that can be enjoyed by people at all fitness levels. Though played on a smaller court, with a different paddle, and 20 percent deflated tennis balls, POP Tennis is otherwise scored and regulated like traditional tennis. POP Tennis is played on the courts to the left of the Main Clubhouse usually on Thursday mornings from 8 to 10 am (fall/winter hours). Additionally, there is a group that plays Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5 pm. People are free to come and go as their schedules permit. Hours are subject to change, so it is best to check the bulletin board located at the courts for current play times. All are welcome and there are always friendly folks to teach beginners the game! Paddles and balls are provided too. For more info or to express a desire to be on a decision-making committee, contact Carl Miller at (951) 512-3131. Hope you'll POP in! Our Mixed Doubles Mixer for April will take place on Sat., April 4, at 8 am. This Mixer is open to all skill levels. Tennis balls are provided. We usually conclude play at 9:30 am, but players are free to come and go as they desire. The picture at right was taken at the mixer on Feb 2. Pictured are: Solveig Kruse, John Gavin Williams, Gary Lile, Lise Riehle, Mark Vanderpool, and Michelle Scott. Further opportunities for Mixed Doubles play take place on Tuesday mornings at 8 am on courts #1 & #2. All skill levels are welcome. Also, Friday Night Lights, doubles for all skill levels, are scheduled for April 10 and May 8, each starting at 5 pm. You and yours are always welcome. A Member–Guest Tournament will be Sat., April 18 starting at 10 am. Tennis club members are invited to build their teams with a friend, neighbor, or relative who is not a member of our Tennis Club. There will be a Member-Guest sign-up sheet. The morning will conclude with a barbecue on the South Clubhouse patio. For more info, contact David Nethercott, Club Secretary, at (315) 415-2408 or prairieborn@aol.com. Tennis After a rainy start, our Winter/Spring Tournament is underway. We hope all are enjoying the games. Our Saturday Recreational Bocce group, under the leadership of Dianne Stigall, continues. In fact, 16 participants have now joined Friends of Bocce thanks to Dianne's leadership. If you are interested in learning how to play Bocce or want to improve your current skills, come out on Saturdays at 9:30 am. As a courtesy, give Dianne a call at (951) 216-5219 if you are planning to come. The courts have been improved with the addition of rubber bumpers on the side boards and the "grass" surface has been rolled. I hope everyone understands that these Lifestyles articles are always a month behind. We encourage all members to keep up to date with the Friends of Bocce news blasts (slfriendsofbocce@ gmail.com). Be sure the club has your current email. Tom Whittington is the person to contact if you need information on this or if you are new and interested in signing up for Bocce. He can be reached at (925) 826-7657. The Board has been undergoing some changes and there are positions open. If you are interested in serving give Tom a call. Now that the weather is nicer, come out and enjoy the matches. Games are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 3, 4 and 5 pm. Friends of Bocce
