28 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2026 | Woodchucks April already!? I'm still getting over the holiday season. If you're like me and have an overf lowing garage, it's time for some spring cleaning. I found some tools that I hadn't used in years and donated them to the Woodchucks. Some of them will be used in the shop and others will be sold to fund our on-going community projects. If you find some "treasures" taking up space in your garage that you no longer need, please give us a call and we will arrange pickup. Besides the 100s of hand-built toys for the Holiday Toy Drive, our projects have included, making security rods for residents' doors and windows, building and installing wheelchair ramps, building stage props for the Theater Arts presentations, a scoreboard for the Bocce Courts, corn hole boards for the Racquet Club, a Regatta Trophy for the Sailing Club, and many more. These as well as other personal projects are pictured above. Members are encouraged to express their artistic side and having a fully equipped shop makes the process easier. Please consider joining us. Many new members have had no prior woodworking experience, but our Staff and Club Officers are usually around to answer questions, make suggestions, or help with designs. Membership forms and waivers are available at the Clubhouse desk. Hope you can join us making some sawdust! Written by Larry See Our April meeting will feature a topic that I didn't know existed until recently. One of our members, Graeme Hutton, takes photos of celestial bodies. I believe the proper name is Astrophotography. Since Graeme is not an astronaut, he is using some special equipment to capture these images while standing on terra firma. We've invited him to talk about this type of photography. He has a lot of photos on Flickr.com and Facebook. You can look him up. Enclosed photos by Graeme. Most members will remember that we had a photo contest a couple of years ago, with the best entries now hanging in the Clubhouse in the hallway leading to the pool area. It's time to start thinking about another contest, with the best entries to be put on the wall in the first quarter of 2027. We'll be asking for a few volunteers to form a committee to help with this effort. The first thing will be to define a theme – the theme last time was Southern California Living. For the previous contest, before the pandemic, the theme was Reections. We could settle on anything – wildlife, sunsets, vacation photos, seascapes, landscapes, etc. Then we will have to come up with some instructions for how people can submit their photos. We'll reach out to another organization (such as the North County Photographic Society, or the Oceanside Museum of Art) to supply some people to perform the judging. ~ Jim McDonough, jamespmcdonough@gmail.com, (760) 593-9994 Photography
