22 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2026 | In Memory of Chris Sanderson Taken from her family's memorial service handout. God made a wonderful creation, and her parents named her Muriel Christine Sanderson, "Chris" or "Chrissy" to all who knew her. She was strong, caring and generous. She had a gift for finding the sunny side of life and was always ready with a quip to make you laugh. One of her guiding mantras was, "Moving forward with gratitude," a phrase she didn't just say, but truly lived. Chris grew up in Los Angeles and Pacific Palisades with her older brothers, Jim and Phil. She attended Notre Dame Academy on Overland, and later Marymount Girls High School on Sunset. In her twenties, she moved to Colorado for skiing and college - drawn by adventure and wide-open skies, She was not only a graceful snow skier, but her family spent weekends waterskiing on Salton Sea. Yes, the water was brown and there were fish skeletons on the beach, but in the afternoon the water would get mirror-f lat, a waterskier's dream! Chris was a water baby in all forms — sailing, boogie boarding, kayaking and scuba diving. In the early 1990s, Chris settled in San Diego, where she worked for the San Diego Unified School District and later the Orange County Unified School District as a computer systems analyst. She retired at 62. A longtime resident of Ocean Hills, she made a home there— good friends, lovely clubs, and a cornucopia of activities that were a blessing to her life. Along with reading, paper crafting, sewing and dancing, she had a love of the outdoors. She was always up to play. She enjoyed traveling with her sister-in-law Janice, who said "Chris loved every detail of nature." One of Janice's favorite photos captures Chris taking a picture of a tiny f lower that caught her eye along the trail — a perfect ref lection of how she moved through the world: attentive, delighted, and present. The world is a better place for her passing through it. Whether she was picking up trash along a hiking trail or quietly lending support to her friends and community, Chris gave back with an open heart and open hands. Her life is a call to notice the small beauties, to laugh often, and to care generously! Written by Lorraine Kleeman Papercrafting Club The Genealogy Interest Group is a growing group of individuals who want to find out about their heritage and their ancestry. Curiosity about those who came before and formed us is important. The group provides tools to do your research and help in getting started. For those with experience, we can offer suggestions to break through the brick walls of past generations. Meeting with others researching in the same geographical areas is a great help. We have a few Apple computers and PCs in the computer room. It is helpful if you want to bring your own laptop. We will meet for Help Sessions on Fri., April 10 and Thurs., April 23 at 10 am. Newcomers are welcome. All sessions can be seen on the TAG calendar. We are happy to offer the World Explorer version of Ancestry.com free of charge in the Computer Room. This program would cost an individual over $100 a month. We also offer the Family Tree Maker on several of the computers in the lab. A family tree can be started and compiled with either or both of these programs with many hints to assist in your research. Coordinators are Dorothy Miller, Shirley Rock and Peggy Singh. Genealogy Interest Group Inspiration Hill As we walk the trail at Inspiration Hill, we are always impressed by the varied community inspirations as expressed on the Donor Bricks. The trail begins by honoring our pioneer OHCC Founders, and continues with those who so bravely served us. There are bricks honoring family members, beloved pets, and favorite universities. What is your inspiration? The HOA continues to take orders for your own personalized bricks. Fill out an order form at the HOA office, and include a check for $75. Your inspiration brick will help line the trail to the top of the hill!
