Racquet Club Our April General Membership meeting is Thurs., April 9 from 4 to 5:30 pm at the Lanai. The court resurfacing project – paid for from the HOA reserves account – should be moving into its final phase when you read this. The Terrace Courts (next to the Dog Park) return to traditional tennis colors of competition blue and green as they get ready for their more active April – September schedule of mixers, monthly club nights (tennis followed by pizza at Grand Slam) and clinics. The tennis faithful are always ready to welcome players back to the game, so stop by if you've been thinking about that racquet that's been hiding in your closet. The other three venues are likewise rimmed in green. Playing courts are blue with a sandstone-colored "kitchen" for the smaller courts where pickleball is played. The big change will be at the Pavilion where Court 4 has been transformed for multi-purpose use; in addition to the tennis court, it is now home to our only basketball court, one of two hitting walls for tennis and pickleball (the other at Court 8), and two painted pickleball courts. Who can play what and when will be managed by our Skedda court reservation system and booking rules that give preference to tennis. The Racquet Club, which manages the courts, will move many of our classes to Court 4, releasing more slots for reservations or open play. The number of new residents moving in who already play pickleball has increased demand for court-time, so we're fortunate to have two additional part-time courts available. Uncertainty about the timing of the resurfacing project provided the opportunity to re-think our traditional, separate but equal, men's doubles and women's doubles pickleball tournaments. This year they will become a "double double" event – two concurrent tournaments taking place over two days, May 29 and 30. We're planning for three levels of play with round robins on day one followed by double elimination play on day two. The culminating social will take a different tack as well — but more on that next issue! Play & Stay Saturdays are a club mainstay — a chance to drop in for pickleball on a Saturday morning, catch up with those you haven't crossed paths with for awhile, toss some cornhole bags (it's really not that hard!) and enjoy some snacks and beverages put together by monthly hosts. The OH Easter Egg Hunt supercedes our April date, so calendar May 2 after you make the rounds of the community driveway sales. Website: ohccracquetclub.org Help Desk: email ohrchelp@ gmail.com.
