As we move into late spring and early summer, we continue to stay active and increase our energy levels to ensure we can do all the fun things we want to do. As you know, Aerobics provides the opportunity to continue to improve our strength, exibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning. Aerobics is known to reduce the risk of health issues. e class has low impact; there is NO oor work but lots of fun music. Each class starts with a warm-up session followed by an aerobic portion, and then a cool down (which includes some light stretching). Occasionally, there are a few exercises for balance and or easy dance steps. During the last 10 minutes of class, we use light hand weights to maintain and increase strength and build muscle. Classes are available on Mon., Wed., and Fri. in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am. Based on your schedule, you attend the number of classes that feel right for you. You can attend two classes before joining the Aerobics Club to see if it is the fun exercise, you are looking for. e cost is $5 per class paid directly to Christine Alesiani, our instructor. e annual dues for 2026 Aerobic Club are $ 10. Note: ere is no class on the second Wednesday of each month when the Garden Club holds its meeting. Written by Kathy Palys What is Kundalini yoga? Club members had a peek into this practice at our March wellness presentation. OHCC resident Donnalee Singer shared some of her knowledge and passion about how to achieve vibrant health by connecting the three pillars of health - Mind, Body and Spirit. e practice of Kundalini yoga can help people live in a way that all three components are in harmonious balance. One aects the other. Emotional stress triggers a response in the nerves, hormones and chemicals in the body. is in turn can lead to high blood pressure and digestion issues, to name a few. Donnalee led us in some techniques to facilitate the harmony of balance - connecting the mind and body to the spirit. We practiced controlled breathing, "practice the pause," creative visualizations, sound/vibrational healing, meditation and positive self- armations, among others. We learned how to use solfeggio frequencies of music to help calm the nervous system. Putting these peaceful practices into your daily routine can help achieve vibrant health and wellness. To share her knowledge about the mind, body and spirit connection, Donnalee teaches a weekly class. Our next Wellness presentation will be on Fri., Sept. 11, at 1:30 pm on the Lanai. We will be welcoming Dr. Bryan Hawkins, D.O., who is board-certied in family medicine and neuromusculoskeletal medicine (NMM). NMM is a specialized branch of osteopathic medicine focused on diagnosing and treating conditions aecting the nerves, muscle, bones and joints. It's a specialty designation that few physicians in the U.S. have achieved. His approach to health care is anchored by hands-on osteopathic manipulative therapy and innovative treatments to restore function and reduce pain without relying on drugs or surgery. Mark your calendar for this interesting presentation. Summer is approaching fast and activity at the pool is increasing. Our shared pool has lots of rules - no kids under ve, no inatable toys, no running or diving. But the most important one is the easiest - treat other pool users with respect and courtesy. at's a great motto for life and a great motto for our pool as well! Our summer lunch social is coming up. We'll gather on Wed., June 17, at 11 am on the Lanai. Save the date! e Swim & Wellness club is looking for a member who has some basic computer skills to help with our website.
