| OHCC LIVING | MAY 2026 | 37 Golf Club May is a great month in golf because the weather is perfect for more holes in one here at OHCC. e hole-in-one, or "ace," is one of golf 's most celebrated, rare, and historic moments. While golf has been played for centuries, the documentation of these feats began in the late 19th century. Earliest Recorded Holes-In-One 1868 (e First): e rst ocially recorded hole-in-one is generally credited to Old Tom Morris, who achieved the feat at the 1868 British Open at Prestwick on the 166-yard 8th hole. Odds: e odds of an average golfer hitting a hole-in-one are roughly one in 12,500, while touring professionals have much better odds at roughly one in 2,500. e Tradition: It is a long-standing tradition that the player who scores a hole-in-one buys a round of drinks for everyone in the clubhouse bar aerward. Insurance: Because of the cost of that tradition, "hole-in-one insurance" has existed since at least 1918 to protect golfers from high bar tabs and to cover prizes in contests. We've had sponsors here who have oered up a car or free clubs for HO1on a specic hole like four or 12-loads of fun to try so far no one has won it yet. Perhaps when we get back to special tournaments we can try again! So far in tournament play this year we have seven guys who have made their HIO's winning $25 and a spot serving pizza at our club meetings. Allen Cox, Mitch Friedman, Gary Kidwell along with Bob Fisher, Nigel Nelmes (see picture) and John Marshall. Charlie Payne is our only Fling Golfer to ACE so far-well done! In tournament news we had our April 11, Guys and Dolls and Touring Amateurs April 13, at Native Oakes-see OHGC.Net for winners if you missed it. e next Guys and Dolls are on May 9. G & D have begun to pay a place for the low Gross team of the day to recognize lowest round on the day. Touring Amateurs is scheduled for May 11 at the Welks Fountain course details coming soon. A Special thank you to Alan Colson and Annette Guillory for their outstanding leadership rolling out Unknown Golf and all the directors for embracing our new system working countless hours on training and roll out which will greatly enhance our handicap system with greater eciency. Written by Teresa Deutman If you are looking for a way to reduce stress and anxiety, and a way to increase exibility and balance, then Tai Chi exercise may be just what the doctor ordered. Originally, Tai Chi was developed for self-defense, but has evolved into a graceful form of exercise. Some describe it as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle, owing movements. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture ows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and tness levels. It is especially suitable for older adults who otherwise may not exercise. e benets of Tai Chi may include decreased stress, improved mood, increased energy, improved exibility, balance, and agility, and improved muscle strength. OHCC oers a free Tai Chi class each Tuesday and ursday, 9 to 10 am, in the Abravenal Hall. Each class is led by a video presentation that lasts about 45 minutes.
