The weather is wonderful, the activities are plentiful, so get out in the community! At right are a couple of pictures from the "Four Lads from Liverpool" Beatles tribute band that played on April 26 on the Plaza. Please enjoy them as much as those who attended the concert and appreciated the performance. A good time was had by all who braved the cool and breezy weather to join in the singing and dancing. The May 9 Scavenger Hunt was a huge success and a lot of fun for all participants. Look for more event details and pictures of this year's winners in next month's article. Plans for this year's Independence Day celebration are being finalized. Be sure to join in the festivities as our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary on July 4th. This year's event promises to be the best ever and tickets are on sale now at the Lodge at $25 each. There will be music, commemorations, and an all-American BBQ of hamburgers and potato salad. Doors open at 5 pm, and dinner will be served at 5:30 pm. Patriotic honors begin at 7 pm and the concert featuring Idlewild South starts at 7:30 pm. This event is for residents and guests aged 21 and better so feel free to bring your refreshments – please remember that glass containers are not permitted on the Plaza! Don't forget the Social Committee is presenting a Sock Hop on Aug. 22 in the Lodge Ballroom. More information about this fun event will be forthcoming in future articles so be sure and watch for them. You won't want to miss this return to yesteryear when "hopping" was a thing! If you think all the recent activities were fun - just wait! In addition to our Independence Day celebration and the Sock Hop, an Eagles tribute band is scheduled for Sun., Sept. 27 on the Plaza. Do not miss this event – it is sure to be one of our best yet. Tickets go on sale Aug. 19 at the Lodge at $25 each. This event is for residents and guests aged 21 or better so plan to bring refreshments and snacks. And lastly, plans are underway for the 2026 New Year's Eve celebration. This year's theme will be "Black & White" so start planning accordingly for this annual event. Social Committee Water Wise – Doing Your Part As we begin entering the summer months, one of the biggest and most common lawn and plant care issues in Four Seasons is overwatering. The sprinkler runtimes are likely set by your gardener upon start-up and never adjusted or monitored. This "set it and forget it" approach is convenient, but not efficient. Often, sprinklers can be seen operating multiple times per day, with excess water running down our streets breaking up the asphalt by seeping under it, and degrading the road base that supports the asphalt coating. Ultimately, YOU WILL END UP PAYING TO RECONSTRUCT YOUR STREETS WITH POTENTIALLY INCREASED HOMEOWNER'S FEES. Additionally, YOU PAY FOR WATER THAT IS RUNNING DOWN THE STREETS! How You Can Help Most Irrigation Control Panels are located inside the garage and consist of these basic functions: 1. Setting the current time and date 2. Start Time – time you want the watering to begin 3. Run Time – how long you want each zone to water (typical system has at least 4 zones) 4. How Often – select the days of the week you want to water Verify the settings at your irrigation control panel and if needed, adjust accordingly or ask your gardener to adjust it for you. Sprinklers operate most efficiently when used at night. The ideal time to water is in the pre-dawn hours when it is cooler and there is less wind, so the water has a chance to penetrate down to the root zone. It is recommended that run times per zone can run up to five minutes depending on the type of landscape being watered. Check your sidewalk and curbs along with the backyard drains. If you have water f lowing into the street gutters, there is a good chance you are overwatering. The water we use contains calcium which can clog your sprinkler heads and drip systems. Inspect to see that each are working correctly and spraying within the desired location. Special Note: Be aware that the control panel has a battery. If the battery is dead, your control panel will revert to the default mode after a power failure, which can delete your settings. By making the necessary periodic adjustments and inspections to your sprinkler system, you will not only save money but also conserve our most important resource.
