Racquet Club With the court resurfacing project behind us and warm months on the horizon, the Racquet Club has a pair of special events in May to jumpstart the OHCC summer fun season. The Memorial Day Kickoff brings our growing tennis group together for a few hours of friendly play on the courts followed by a sumptuous mid-afternoon potluck at the Palm Court. This second annual social event, along with the expanded monthly activity calendar from spring to late fall, is key to growing our tennis-playing community. The Tennis Committee, which includes Greg and Cindy Smith, Margo Barnard, Véronique Duke, John Hurley, Kirby Koetz, and Victoria Santa Maria, offers free clinics (some member-only, others for all residents), tennis mixers, and a monthly Club Night. Learn more on our website or on the court bulletin boards. Our May 29 - 30, Double, Double is a new social event blending pickleball with an evening of food and music for all members. Concurrent men's and women's doubles tournaments will extend over two days starting with round-robins and ending with double elimination play and championship matches on Saturday afternoon. This new format has attracted a competitive field, especially among our advanced players. Spectators are invited to catch the action both days at the Clubhouse and Pavilion courts and check out Friday's vendor fair on the Racquet Club Lawn as well. Saturday evening will be "party time" for Racquet Club members and their guests: celebrating our competitors, enjoying a Nucci's-catered dinner, and dancing the night away at the Lanai. Looking ahead, we'll have a June 6, Play & Stay: Saturday morning pickleball along with cornhole on the Racquet Club Lawn, and a late morning social hosted by Judy and Scott Widdes. We'll also reprise the dinking competition held every couple years. Don't let this year's title deter you: June 27, Pickleball Kitchen Wars will be nothing but fun! Look for details early in the month. A variety of pickleball classes will be offered throughout the summer, and members always receive advance email alerts. Residents looking for beginner lessons simply need to contact our club Help Desk – those lessons are free! If paddle tennis sounds interesting, stop by their Monday morning 9 – 11 am drop-ins at the HOA courts to check it out – it's a small and friendly group.
