16 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2026 | Our Cinco de Mayo line dance party on May 5 at Abravanel Hall was a very lively and festive event, with 85 dancers in attendance. Nine of those were guests, and the rest were members of our Line Dance Club. Thanks to everyone for coming and enjoying the dancing. A special shout-out goes to the eight wonderful volunteers who helped create a fun fiesta atmosphere by checking party goers in, decorating and setting up the food and beverages — thank you. We'd also like to extend our appreciation to our party sponsor, Barbara DuDeck. Plan now to attend our next party on the evening of Oct. 30, that will be Halloween-themed. The event was great for both our physical health and social connections. Under Christine's instruction and enthusiasm, we enjoyed nearly two hours of continuous dancing — a workout! The Level 3 dancers kicked things off with demonstrations of two advanced dances, which inspired everyone. From there, we enjoyed a nice mix of Level 1 (beginner) and Level 2 (improver) dances. Before the dancing began, the tables were filled, and the room was full of lively conversation, making it a perfect opportunity to meet new people and strengthen friendships. From her vantage point on the stage Christine could see the joy in the room. The music selection had something for everyone — Country, Jazz, Pop — with a fun emphasis on Latin rhythms. Christine got things started with Hot Hot Hot featuring a conga step, followed by two rumba dances, I'll See You in Cuba and Rhumbumbumba, and a mambo favorite, Papa Loves Mambo. Then click on "Videos" to access five beginner dances, each about three minutes long perfect for a quick practice session. Class Schedule & Fees (Abravanel Hall): • Level 1 (Beginner): Tuesday, 10:30 – 11:30 am, $5 • Level 2 (Improver): Monday, 12:30 – 2 pm, $7 • Level 3 (Intermediate): Tuesday, 12 – 1:30 pm, $10 New participants are always welcome! The popular Breez'n Band set the tone from the very first song, keeping the energy high and the dance floor full all evening. They played a wonderful mix of upbeat hits and nostalgic classics, along with a few line dances and our members' favorite circle dance, Sweet Caroline. The room looked festive with brightly decorated tables and 48 shiny balloons. One of the evening's highlights was the exciting announcement that, in just 16 months, our club has grown to over 360 members! We were also proud to introduce Karen Trogdin as a very special honorary member of the Let's Dance Club. Karen's smiles and enthusiasm truly warm our hearts! Now it's time to sign up for our first Lanai party on June 19 featuring DJ TigerLily. Don't miss the opportunity to dance the night away - be sure to sign up early as seats will be limited. Remember that the Let's Dance Club's events are more than just parties. They are a chance to relax, connect, and enjoy the moment in our fast-paced world.
