Our June Cars & Coffee meeting was fantastic with nice weather and a great turnout. Hot coffee, iced coffee, and a great assortment of donuts were available. Pete Placeres showed up in his slick-looking Slingshot by Polaris. The Slingshot is a three-wheeled open aired autocycle that combines the ride of a motorcycle and the comfort of a car. The Slingshot sure gathered a lot of attention. Robert Mora drove up in style with his beautiful bright red 2018 F-Type Jaguar. Bob has owned his Jag for about six years. Please join us for our next Cars & Coffee meeting on Saturday, July 4 at The Lodge parking lot. There are a lot of activities planned for the Fourth, including a golf cart parade. Our Cars & Coffee meeting will still meet that morning at 9 am. First, one of our members summarized a scientific report on the growing problem of a fatty liver. Approximately one-third of people in the U.S. have this condition and the number is growing. To prevent this condition from growing, people are encouraged to cut back on sugary drinks, beef, cold cuts, fried foods, butter, ice cream, white rice, alcohol, pasta, and chips. Foods that are better for us include fruit, proteins like fish, chicken and tofu, walnuts, avocados, yogurt, whole grains, beans, lentils, green tea, and ginger tea. We also read an article on lentils, which are featured on the above list as a healthy food. Lentils are one-quarter protein. They are easy to prepare and don't require overnight soaking. They come in four or five colors with different properties. We all have homework to do this week to take one of the three recipes we received to try making a lentil dish. You may find that a group like TOPS can help you as well. We meet on Tuesday at 8:30 am in the Ballroom. For more information, call Andi Henderson at (918) 497-6491. ~ Andi Henderson It's going to be a hot month — but not because of the wine. Instead of spiced or warm wines, we'll be tasting a selection of excellent wines that are sure to sparkle and impress. If you're in town, you won't want to miss it. We'll also have some wine trivia as part of the meeting's educational program, so trivia fans should start brushing up on their knowledge of wines and grapes. You may be surprised by what you learn tonight. This month's meeting will be held on Thursday, July 16. Doors open at 5:15 pm, so come early to find a table and enjoy your snacks. Please bring two glasses, a bottle of wine to share between pours, and something to share with your tablemates. We will begin promptly at 6 pm. We are always looking for our neighbors to give the night's toast, future wines, or interesting topics. Please call or email me with ideas or to do the toast. ~ Tom DePaola, tomdepaola@roadrunner.com, (714) 404-1956 Taste d'Vine
