FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2026 53 Classic Film Group We will be presenting the classic thrillers from the golden age of cinema — the 1930s and 40s. Join us July 7 at 6 pm in the e Lodge eater for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), which is widely celebrated as the rst horror/thriller lm to win an Oscar (Fredric March for Best Actor). It's a genre milestone so powerful, its achievement wouldn't be repeated for nearly 60 years. Only a romantic genius like March could bring you the supreme thrills of this classic of classics. (e next genre lm to sweep the major awards wasn't exactly 60 years later — it was actually 59 years later when e Silence of the Lambs won Best Picture in 1991! It also took home the "Big 5 Award" a rst and only time for a horror/thriller.) Anyone with a request to see a movie macabre from the 1930s or 1940s, please let me know. e Wednesday Matinee Film on July 8 at 2 pm will be e Crossing, honoring George Washington's courage crossing the Deleware. Too oen we forget about our roots. is movie reminds us how fragile freedom can be and how one man made such an impact on a new nation. Less than six months aer the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Washington (Je Daniels) leads his troops across the Delaware River to attack the Hessians on Christmas Night, Dec. 25 - 26, 1776. Low on men, cannons, and supplies, Washington decides to risk everything in a daring attack on the town of Trenton where over 1,000 of the feared Hessian mercenaries are garrisoned. is seemingly hopeless battle would turn out to be more successful than Washington ever dreamed. On July 28 at 6 pm, we present All e Kings Men, the 1950 Academy Award for Best Picture. "He might have been a pretty good guy … if too much power … and women … hadn't gone to his head!" is movie follows the rise and fall of a grass-roots rural politician Willie Stark (Broderick Crawford) who eventually becomes mired in the sort of political corruption he vehemently railed against on his way to the governor's mansion. ~ Paul Plamondon, 4seasonsmoviegroup@ gmail.com
