FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2026 63 Now that the weather is warming up, it's a good time to take your workout outside and let movement become part of your lifestyle. Some of the best workouts don't happen inside a gym. They happen on a walking trail, in a neighborhood park, on a bike ride with your family or friends, working in the yard, going for a swim, or exploring a new place on foot. Explore the many clubs and groups within our community and find an activity that will keep you active and motivated to keep moving forward with your health and fitness goals. When movement becomes part of your daily life, exercise stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling natural, fresh air energizes the body, sunshine lifts the spirit, walking strengthens the heart, and outdoor activity improves balance, mobility, and endurance. Jack LaLanne believed the body was designed to move, not spend its days sitting indoors. You don't have to make fitness complicated. Go for a walk after dinner, take the stairs, park farther away and appreciate the extra steps, or spend time outdoors doing something active. Every step counts. The goal isn't simply to exercise for an hour. The goal is to build a life where movement is a normal part of every day. Longevity is not about simply adding years — it's about adding life to those years. You don't need extreme workouts. You need consistent movement. The next Gym Club meeting is July 10 from 10 to 11 am in the RCN Activity Room #3. The cooler weather is finally behind us, and Four Seasons Pickleballers are enjoying all kinds of heat — the heat from the sun, and the heat from fast-paced play! The heat from the sun can be intense, even during early morning play. Now is a good time to check the expiration dates on your sunscreen. Many of us "baby boomers" grew up in a time when sunscreen didn't really exist — it was considered "suntan lotion." Visits to the dermatologist have become the norm for some of us. Applying sunscreen before you hit the court is very important, and reapplying it is a must as well; and don't forget your hat! Four Seasons Pickleballers also know the importance of hydrating. Hydrating doesn't begin when you hit the court. A structured, timeline-based approach keeps your body hydrated and performing at its best if you follow these steps; 1. Drink 17-20 oz of water a few hours before you exercise, and 8 oz about 30 minutes before starting. 2. During exercise, drink 4-8 oz every 15-20 minutes. 3. Drink water after exercise as well and consider a sports drink with electrolytes. Our club play hours are 7 to 11 am, seven days a week. You don't need to be a club member to come out and join in the fun. We welcome all residents, experienced or not! If you have never played and want to see what pickleball is all about, come join us on Saturday mornings at 8:30 am for an introductory lesson with Nancy, our pickleball instructor. You are guaranteed to have a great time, get some exercise, and meet some new friends. Club membership is $25 per year, and membership fees help us supply ball for the courts and allow the Steering Committee to plan fun events throughout the year. See you on the courts … and don't forget your sunscreen, hat, and water! ~ Kelly Vucinic, kellyvucinic@yahoo.com Pickleball
