26 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2026 | Welcome to summer and the start of election season. Every club needs to seat a nominating committee for fall elections. Barbara Ott has agreed to chair our committee, and Karen Nelson has volunteered to serve, but we will be filling one more spot to meet club requirements for elections. If you are interested in running for a Board position, let Barbara know. Stay tuned! Vicki Greene will be changing the Sewing Room display cabinets soon. She is looking for red, white, and blue items made by members. Please contact Vicki at (973) 464-5121 to arrange for pick-up or delivery. The items will probably be on display for a couple of months and are in locked cabinets. Let members and residents see and enjoy your beautiful work! While you are checking out the displays, remember to sign up for classes and events on the clipboards in the Sewing Room. Besides election season, we are beginning our annual Holiday Camp Pendleton donations. Your volunteer involvement does make a difference! July's meeting is July 2 at 9:30 am in the Mykonos Room. Come early for treats and social time. By the time you read this, our new website will hopefully be live on the resident website. Remember that club correspondence is coming from the new Sewing Etc. email, instead of individual accounts. This month's photos are Zoraya De La Bastida with new website, Charlotte St. Laurent modeling Linus projects, and Susan Baker with schlepp bags (class coming soon). Play more, create more, volunteer more, and celebrate our country's 250th birthday! Written by Diana Homan Sewing Etc. Club Custom-Made Envelopes and Spider Mum Paper Flowers The season of spring was the inspiration behind two of the Papercrafting classes offered to members over the past month. Group 3 introduced hand-crafting custom-lined and designed envelopes to hold cards, gifts or other craft items. Led by Karin Barnes, the class used club-provided tools like paper cutters and envelope makers. With these tools attendees cut out the size of paper to use with envelope makers which helps score the paper for the selected envelope size. Members used their own background papers and papers from the club's stash. Also (as you can see in the photo) complimentary papers were used to line the custom envelopes. Karen Lohr and Kerry Peyton, co-leaders of Group 3, have a full plan of class themes for future classes including making Bridge Fold Cards and Upcycling: Trash to Treasure. The TOTE class featured hand-crafting paper spider mum f lowers for use as a bouquet in a vase or mounted as a f lower art frame to hang as a decoration. Paper f lowers are beautifully put together with Cricut-designed spider mum petals and leaves cut out of card stock. Floral tape, stems, glue and a bit of patience are needed to mold and fold the petals of the mum into a beautiful and realistic spider mum f lower. Below is a photo of the finished f lower art frame. The Social Committee is busy planning a Home Tour and Social event for June 19. Members can view the craft room/area that members use to store their supplies — like stamps, inks, tools, paper, die cuts, embossing folders, and cutting machines — to create their beautiful crafts. Lots of ideas on organization, space- saving and using magnetic materials to display tools, etc. RSVP by June 7. Photos of this special social event will be featured in the July issue of this magazine. Submitted by Lorraine Kleeman Papercrafting Club
