24 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2026 | Helping Hands has a new home! We have moved out of our former smaller white wooden shed into one of the larger steel containers across from it. We are working on a sign so you can easily locate us. We now have adequate space to get to items quickly when the need arises. We have canes, crutches, standard aluminum folding walkers, four-wheel walkers, bed handrails, knee scooters, transport and standard wheelchairs, shower chairs and more. Equipment is available to all OHCC residents to borrow for free. If you need an item(s) or would like to donate equipment, please reach out to us at HH.ohccsert@ gmail.com. The trail begins by honoring our pioneer OHCC Founders, and continues with those who so bravely served us. There are bricks honoring family members, beloved pets, and favorite universities. What is your inspiration? The HOA continues to take orders for your own personalized bricks. Fill out an order form at the HOA office, and include a check for $75. Your inspiration brick will help line the trail to the top of the hill! SMB Club Enjoys a Busy June June was a busy and exciting month for the Save the Monarch Butterf ly Club, filled with opportunities to share our garden, educate visitors, and enjoy time together. On June 6, we participated in the Garden Club's Home Garden Tour. Ruth and Ken Schafer, along with our dedicated volunteer gardeners, worked tirelessly to prepare the sanctuary for this special event. Their efforts truly paid off. The garden within the fence looked spectacular, and the many butterf ly-friendly planting areas throughout the park were also in full bloom, creating a beautiful display for visitors to enjoy. In past years, we were able to display cages showing the various stages of the Monarch butterf ly's life cycle. Since the California Department of Fish and Wildlife no longer permits caging, we introduced a new educational feature this year. Small interpretive signs were placed along the circular pathway in the center of the garden, helping visitors learn about Monarchs and other butterf ly species. These signs also provide grandparents and parents with a wonderful way to share the story of butterf ly development with younger visitors. On June 25, we hosted a delightful Butterf ly Tea Party. Guests enjoyed a delicious assortment of sandwiches and sweets prepared by Pavilions Catering. One of the highlights of the afternoon was our Tea Hat Contest, where guests decorated hats with butterf lies and other creative embellishments. Prizes were awarded for the Most Beautiful, Most Creative, and Funniest hats. Additional games and activities added to the fun and laughter throughout the afternoon. A special thank-you goes to Carol Kennedy, our Event Director, whose creativity and hard work made the Tea Party a memorable success. We look forward to sharing photographs from this wonderful event in next month's OHCC Living Magazine. Looking ahead, excitement is building for our July 29, excursion to Roger's Gardens in Corona del Mar. SMB Club members and Garden Club members (total 80) will travel together for a personalized tour and presentation by Ron Vanderhoff, General Manager and nationally recognized horticultural expert. The day will also include time to explore the beautiful gardens and, of course, visit the renowned gift shop. As always, we thank our members and volunteers for their continued support in making the Save the Monarch Butterf ly Club such a vibrant and active part of our community. ~Written by Rona Cole Save the monarch butterfly
