Woodchucks
Kindness is a byproduct of a Woodchuck "chucking" wood. Examples can
be seen all over our great community. We build wheelchair ramps and window
security rods for those in need, as well as bird houses for our golf course Bluebirds.
We repurpose items, as evidenced during the Clubhouse remodel, when we built
the "Romeo & Juliet" balcony in the Grand Galleria using the old front doors of the
Clubhouse. Woodchucks built all the racks in our Clubhouse Information Center.
"Chuckers" built the scale model of the new Lanai to help with understanding. We
have answered requests from OHCC service clubs by building new book racks for
the library, a soundshell for our Chorale, boxes for the Golf Club, "Scoop-Matics"
for Bocce, signs for the Butterf ly Club, "Corn-Hole" games for the Racquet Club,
and we are currently working on a grand menorah for our Yiddish Club.
The best example of our efforts to spread kindness is the annual Toy Drive for
the children of the Marines at Camp Pendleton. Along with volunteers from the
Sewing Club, Village Vets, and Art Club painters, we work to serve the families of
those who so bravely serve us.
Our members stand ready to make sawdust and serve… it is our pleasure.
Great examples of such kindness and dedication have been "Murf " and Patti
Haugen. In years past, he would build the toys while Patti would supervise,
cleanup, and paint… always with a sparkle in her eye and a smile on her face.
We will miss her. May she rest in peace. Written by Tom Murphy, President
