| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2026 | 37 August! Can you believe how fast it has arrived? And to be fully prepared to enjoy all the summer activities we have, join us in the Aerobics Class and prepare to have fun. As you probably know, by doing Aerobics we continue to improve our strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning to enjoy our summer activities. The Aerobics class has a low impact; there is NO floor work but lots of fun music. Aerobics meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am. Based on your schedule, you attend the number of classes that feel right for you. You can attend two classes before joining the Aerobics Club to see if it is the fun exercise you are looking for. The cost is $5 per class paid directly to Christine Alesiani, our instructor. The annual dues for 2026 Aerobic Club are $10. Note: There is no class on the second Wednesday of each month when the Garden Club holds its meeting. Written by Kathy Palys Aerobics The Table Tennis (aka Ping Pong) club at OHCC is open for play almost every day of the week. On weekdays, the default location for play is the Mykonos Room, and for weekends it moves to Abravanel Hall. Tables are typically set up for play on Mondays from 11 am to 2:30 pm, Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 am, and all other days from 1 to 8 pm. Members should check the updated weekly time schedules emailed monthly, posted on the bulletin board in Mykonos, or displayed on the Clubhouse activities marquee screen, as schedule changes occasionally occur based on room availability. The club offers members professional lessons to learn proper form and positioning to reduce the chances of falling or injury while improving overall playing ability. A buddy system allows players to book times to practice with more experienced players. Paid individual and group lessons with professional coaches can be booked in 30-minute slots from 3:30 to 5:30 pm on most Sundays. Sign-up sheets for both practice buddies and pro coaches are located on the bulletin board in the Mykonos Room. A Billiards Club Board member for more than five years, Janice is intelligent, charming, and proof that a friendly smile and a solid pool game can go hand in hand. Janice grew up in Westchester, a small suburb west of Chicago. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree while planning to become an art teacher. After one semester of student teaching, she decided the classroom wasn't where she wanted to spend the rest of her career. Instead, she landed at Hudson's Department Store in Detroit, where she worked in the News Bureau arranging media interviews and promoting special events. In today's world, we'd probably call her an inf luencer — before inf luencers were even invented! Janice and her husband, Gary, moved to Ocean Hills in 2016. Besides billiards, she enjoys art, theatre, and pickleball. In other words, retirement hasn't slowed her down one bit. Gary, an accomplished pool player, introduced Janice to the game, and with some instructions from Charlie Payne, she is hooked. What she enjoys most is meeting new people while constantly trying to improve her game. Her favorite game is 8-Ball, and is trying to master bank shots, which she admits is quite a challenge. Her advice for anyone thinking about joining the Billiards Club? "Stop thinking and just jump in!" Janice is an early bird who's awake by 6 am. And if she could eat just one food for the rest of her life — with all the nutrition magically included — it would be chocolate ice cream. Written By Harris Golden Billiards
