32 | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2026 | After two great events at The Colony featuring Callaway Vineyards in May and Truff le Pig in June, we are moving into August. Masia de la Vinya AND Danza del Sol will be visiting us for an evening that promises to yield some great local wines and an entertaining evening with their team. In September, your Board has arranged a visit from the Jordan Parker Winery, which is a fairly new addition to our wine country. We are already heading into our valley's harvest season and now is a great time to visit the wineries and see the clusters of grapes developing on vines. Our harvest season begins in late July and ends in early November, comprising the following sequences: Early ripening grapes: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Methode Champenoise. Aromatic whites and early reds: Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Grenache. Mid-season reds: Merlot, Syrah, Sangiovese, and Zinfandel. Late harvest bold reds: Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Syrah. But remember that grape growing is not an exact science — if that Viognier grape isn't ready, it won't get picked yet and if that Pinot Noir grape is ready ahead of schedule, then let the picking begin! Also, note that we discussed Methode Champenoise — Champagne belongs to a very specific AOC in France. Our wineries use similar methods (Methode Champenoise), but we don't label the product as "Champagne." If you visit one of the wineries we have featured, don't forget to mention that you discovered them through our Colony Wine Club. Wine Club information: Sharon Evans 951-445-3861. Colony Chorus By Ken Luekens Dance for Movement and Fun Class By JoAnna Ferber Looking for a fun way to stay active, enjoy music, and connect with others? Join us for Dance for Movement and Fun! This class is a little different from traditional dance classes. Together, we will learn dance routines created by Ralph Beaubrun, a popular choreographer whose engaging dance videos have gained a large online following. His choreography is fun, energetic, and accessible for all skill levels. The routines are set to a mix of classic favorites and current hits, making them enjoyable and easy to follow. Using Ralph's tutorial videos as our guide, we'll learn and dance together as a group. Each routine consists of Part 1 and Part 2, with each section including three to four repetitions of the movements and steps. We won't be creating our own choreography — simply following along with the videos, moving at your own pace, and having fun. No pressure. No memorization. Just follow along at your own pace and have fun. Move Freely, Laugh Often and Enjoy! is hosted by Gloria Carroll and JoAnna Ferber in the Annex each Tuesday at 10 am. We hope you will join us.
