In August, Colony Cousins Genealogy Club will again offer individual consulting to assist you in family history research. Our experienced members will help with questions and techniques for gathering information and getting around "brick walls" in researching your family tree. We will use online resources such as Ancestry and MyHeritage on your laptop/device (if you have it) or on our laptops. This is a great opportunity to make progress by getting personalized assistance. You will need to sign up for a time slot (30 to 45 minutes) on Aug. 11. Please contact me by email or phone to set up a time. Meetings are from 1 to 3 pm so please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your time slot. For questions and to sign up for individual consulting, contact me at 503-269-9987 or lenniem07@yahoo.com. | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2026 | 33 Genealogy By Lennie Martin Hand and Footers By Marilyn Grimes, 619-606-6914 Mark your calendars! We now meet every Wednesday in the Clubhouse Lounge from noon to around 4 pm. On the second Wednesday of the month we meet in Clubhouse Hallway. One rule we try to follow is "Don't talk when it's your turn!" We do enjoy each other's company and catching up each week. The other rule is "Have fun!" Finger snacks are optional. Gals and guys are welcome, and we hope you'd like to join us. Come every time or when you can — no sub list, everyone plays. If you need a refresher or want to learn the game, please contact Marilyn Grimes, (Club Leader) at 619-606-6914, or Nancy Hargrave (Assistant Leader) at 661-609-9512 for a learning/refresh session. We are holding learning/refresh sessions on Tuesdays by appointment. We have a beginner's table during our Wednesday games for newly trained players as needed. June was a busy month for the CGS. We started our first meeting on June 8 with a presentation on historical rock n' roll songs and guitar techniques used to record them. During our second meeting, we experimented with new procedures for our sit n' play music-sharing sessions. On June 27, we participated in The Colony's Club Expo held in the auditorium. Every other Tuesday, I play music for the residents at the WellQuest facility across the street, adding more musical activities to my schedule. It's not an official part of the Society, but my co-founder, Joe Roux has been giving lessons to a few enthusiastic players, so both of us have been very busy with music this month! During our participation in the Club Expo, we were pleasantly surprised by how many people stopped by to say hello and how many former guitar players we encountered in The Colony! This month, we have a presentation on Antônio Carlos Jobim, considered by many to be "The Godfather of Bossa Nova;" then we'll continue our sit-and-play activities. Interested in what we do? Just contact either of the founders: Manny G. Gomez at finegtrplayer@yahoo. com or Joe Roux at joerouxpmp@gmail.com.
