| THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2026 | 35 Want to try something different and fun this summer? Something you never knew you could do? Then come to one of our Improv classes. You can be someone you thought you could never be. Have a couple of hours to laugh at yourself and others? Improve your shyness of being in front of an audience and realize that we all have hidden talent? We meet on the stage in the Auditorium on the first, third and fourth Monday of every month and in the Annex on the other Mondays from 6 to 8 pm. So, say to yourself, "I can do this" and join the fun! If you have any questions, feel free to call Chuck Gordon 661-714- 3847, Greg Hill 951-757-7530 or me at the number above. Actors Studio By Marsha Tobolski, 562-244-9223 Delicious by Ruth Reichl Billie Breslin has traveled far from her home in California to take a job at Delicious!, New York's most iconic food magazine. At first, Billie feels like a fish out of water — until she is welcomed by the magazine's colorful staff and seduced by the vibrant downtown food scene. Then an unexpected turn of events leads Billie to a miraculous discovery. In a hidden room in the magazine's library, she finds a cache of letters written during World War II by Lulu Swan, a plucky 12-year-old, to the legendary chef James Beard. Lulu's letters provide Billie with a richer understanding of history and inspire Billie to come to terms with her fears and her ability to open her heart to love. Our book club meets on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 10:30 am in the Meeting Room. Our Selection for September is Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult. Book Club By Gerry Gray Happy August all! Colony Players ™eater By Randy Schaaf, 541-954-2934 Most of us love music, but we probably do not realize how valuable it is to our mental health and happiness. According to AARP Magazine, many studies show that music's power affects us both psychologically and physically. Singing with others causes the brain to secrete oxytocin, which creates warm sensations of bonding, unity, security, and awe, and it can alleviate pain and anxiety. When you play and sing with others, it is very difficult to feel bad! We would love to have you get some oxytocin with us on any Friday at 1pm in the Annex. We can teach you how to play this easy instrument and you can sing and laugh with us. You can call me for more information. Colony Strummers Ukulele Club By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375
