Ballroom Dance Getting to Know Our Members: Couples Who Line Dance Many couples enjoy line dancing together, and each has their own reason for joining the fun. One of the great things about line dancing is that everyone dances individually — even when you come with your partner! Teri and Tim Solwell (above) moved to OHCC a year ago from nearby Vista. Curious about line dancing, they joined in January 2026 and discovered it's much different from ballroom dancing — no leading or following a partner in line dance! They also belong to the Racquet Club and Music Lovers Club and especially enjoy that line dancing is active, social, and non-competitive. Teri is a retired art historian, and Tim continues to work as a vending technician. Elizabeth and Chris Pericles (above) moved to OHCC from Carlsbad two years ago. They enjoy line dancing because it's an easy, fun way to stay active while sharing plenty of laughter and meeting new friends. Chris is a retired realtor, while Elizabeth is a retired attorney — and a cat behavior consultant! Sue Marcan and Tom Ball (above) are the club's newest couple, having moved to OHCC in May from the San Francisco Bay Area. Although Tom is new to line dancing, he once took ballroom lessons in what Sue jokingly calls "a very successful effort to get me to fall for him." They enjoy encouraging each other, laughing through the occasional misstep, and celebrating each new dance they learn. Tom also plays Fling Golf, while Sue belongs to the Mahjong, Garden, and Aerobics Clubs. Drora and Michael Oren share a love of line dancing both on and off the dance floor. Drora serves as Club President, and Michael is a Club Director. They enjoy the music, the exercise, and the fun — and often find themselves humming class tunes on the way home. They also look forward to practicing together using the club's YouTube dance videos available on the club website.
