Get Fit Without Leaving Your Chair! By Marivic Ortiz-Luis e reason I oer this class to our residents is to give them an option to choose an exercise class that is not strenuous and high impact. is is a low-impact exercise class that is designed for all seniors, especially for those with limited mobility and with balance issues. We follow a YouTube video for 30-35 minutes, led by Jules, a certied recreational therapist and tness instructor. ese exercises can be done at home, but it's motivating when shared as a group. Since we only do this once a week, on Wednesdays at 10:15 am in the Assembly or Flex room (when our regular room is being used for a meeting), I encourage our members to do it at home, at least ve times a week for 30 minutes a day. If you Google the benets, you will nd the following: Physical Health Benets: • Improves strength and endurance • Enhances exibility and range of motion • Boosts balance and reduces fall risk • Supports cardiovascular health • Improves posture Mental and Emotional Benets: • Boosts mood and condence • Fights depression • Enhances cognitive function Chair exercise is safe and stable because it oers a secure base for exercise so, come and join us. ank you! By Jo Berkey Let me introduce you to the FSTL Aging Healthfully Group. is group meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 2 pm in the Cra Room. is group was formed because Aging Healthfully is a universal goal shared by all. e choices we make today can have a profound impact on how we age in the future. Staying positive while aging is linked to longer life expectancy, better memory retention, and stronger daily functioning. Whether your goal is to prolong your independence, keep your memory sharp through cognitive exercises, boost mobility to enhance your exibility for daily tasks, or to build a community of peers to prevent isolation, this group was created for you. Let's generate habits together that promote fun and positive changes that improve our quality of life. My objective for starting this group was to address the variety of physical, mental, nancial, and social shis that occur as we age. As most of you know, we have a lot of retired professionals living within our community. If you are one of them and have a subject matter that you are interested in sharing with the group, please contact us so you can be added to our calendar. is group provides a means for us to share valuable information with our neighbors and friends that may otherwise be lost. In the past six months, we have covered a variety of subjects from Nutrition to Strength Training to Desert Gardening and Aging Skincare. e feedback has been extremely positive. Each instructor has been eective in encouraging us to evaluate avenues to successfully age while enjoying the process. If you are looking for growth in a variety of areas or are looking to connect with like-minded people, you will want to attend our next meeting on Oct. 21 in which Linda Hagood will be teaching us how to engage in Mental Flexibility. Let's improve our lives while fellowshipping together and gaining life-changing knowledge.
