66 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2026 A great way to start your day is to wake up early and join our group for some outside fresh air, exercise, and socialization. We are currently playing our modified summer hours by starting at 8:30 am instead of 8 am, on Monday and Saturday mornings at the shuff leboard courts at The Lodge behind the swimming pool and next to the paddle tennis courts. Shuff leboard is an easy game to learn and almost anyone can quickly become proficient at this sport. Our games usually last about an hour or so and we randomly select different teams each time that we play. This keeps the competition challenging and the games more interesting. We play for fun and we have no losers, only non-winners. We have a wonderful group of residents who play regularly but we are eager to welcome new players. If you're interested in joining a fun activity with friendly residents, please come out and join our shuff leboard family. We will introduce you to the game of shuff leboard in case you have never played before. If you have played before and just need a review, we can give you a refresher. We had our Four Seasons Senior Oldympics Shuff leboard tournament mid- September and I will announce the medal winners in the next issue of this magazine. The awards ceremony for all of the Oldympic events will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 1 pm in the Ballroom. So plan on coming out to cheer for all of our Four Seasons athletes. Otherwise, I hope to see you on a Monday and/or Saturday morning at 8:30 am at the newer shuff leboard courts. ~ Marty Rotman, (310) 948-1693, mrtmj@aol.com Shuffleboard Bocce Ball The word "bocce" is plural and comes from the Italian word meaning "to bowl." The game is started by throwing a small white ball called the pallino. Rules are very simple, score a point(s) by getting your balls as close to the pallino as possible. Bocce ball requires players to take turns as a team of four. This makes it an ideal game for socializing in between players turns. Laughter, cheers, and words of encouragement can often be heard. A game win is to 12 points. Most often two games are played and take approximately 90 minutes. Cards are drawn for a random mix of players and to insure that no one is left out. Bocce ball is played twice a week at The Summit. Current schedule is Tuesday and Friday at 8 am. There are also many of our players who enjoy the game at different days with some also playing in the dirt courts at The Lodge.
