Every club in OHCC is required to have a general membership meeting to elect club officers for the next year. The Swim & Wellness club traditionally combines this task with a "free to members" light supper. On Wed., Nov. 18, we'll gather at 5:30 pm in Abravanel Hall for this event. Nominating committee members Robin Bleeker and Robin Ryan will direct the voting of officers. We are actively looking for members to indicate interest in a Board position. Several current Board members have indicated their intent to step down and 2027 is beginning to look bleak. Our club charter states these purposes: • Promote swimming and other water exercise as beneficial, safe and fun • Promote a healthy lifestyle through wellness education • Recommend scheduling for optimum use and safety of the pool • Actively support compliance with pool usage rules • Advocate for the pool facility and equipment maintenance with the Recreation Department and the Master Board Interested in helping the club with these goals? Contact Robin at rbleeker53@gmail.com or Robin Ryan at robinryan.a@gmail.com for information on open positions and how you can help the club. The Swim & Wellness Club has a long history of providing FREE SWIM LESSONS to any residents of OHCC. This service is offered year-round and you simply cannot find a better deal anywhere! You and your instructor make arrangements to meet at the pool at a time convenient for both of you. You may choose to have just one lesson or several. This writer took advantage of the offer and met my instructor every Saturday for about six weeks. Thank you, Ken! Interested? We have both male and female instructors, and they can meet the needs of a fearful beginner all the way up to a competent swimmer who may just want to perfect their stroke. Written by Sara Stewart-Club VP Swim & Wellness Club 42 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2026 | The Table Tennis Club is about so much more than just playing ping pong. Cliff Singh, center-yellow shirt in the photo above, was a founding officer in our Table Tennis Club. A lifelong educator of health and exercise, he brought great determination and kindness to our club. Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease several years ago he fought his body to play Table Tennis for years as he knew it was very good for his brain in many ways. Table Tennis improves agility, focus, and memory as you must not just hit the ball but move in a carefully balanced dance in doubles play, remember whose turn it is to serve and keep the score. Cliff has faced tough challenges in the past year or so but with his trademark determination he has gotten healthier and was able to come to join us for an afternoon. The gang was so happy to see him! Take care Cliff, we all love you! Just a reminder that the Table Tennis Club will be having its Fall Party and General Election on Sun., Oct. 18 from 4:30 to 8:30 pm. The tables will be set up for play, and we will be dining on catered food from Nucci's. Cost is $25 per person. Raff le prizes will be given! Join us for a fun evening and election of our 2027 officers! The Table Tennis club at OHCC is open for play almost every day of the week. On weekdays, the default location for play is the Mykonos Room, and for weekends it moves to Abravanel Hall. Tables are typically set up for play on Mondays from 11 am to 2:30 pm, Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 am, and all other days from 1 to 8 pm. Members should check the updated weekly time schedules emailed monthly, posted on the bulletin board in Mykonos, or displayed on the Clubhouse activities marquee screen, as schedule changes occasionally occur based on room availability. The club offers members professional lessons to learn proper form and positioning to reduce the chances of falling or injury while improving overall playing ability. A buddy system allows players to book times to practice with more experienced players. Paid individual and group lessons with professional coaches can be booked in 30-minute slots from 3:30 to 5:30 pm on most Sundays. Sign-up sheets for both practice buddies and pro coaches are located on the bulletin board in the Mykonos Room.
