| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2026 | 5 Message from the GM By Jean Frederick, OHCC General Manager A Season of Celebration and Civic Participation: As we move into October, Ocean Hills Country Club begins one of the most festive times of the year. With Halloween just around the corner and the holiday season not far behind, many residents will be decorating their homes and yards to celebrate. At the same time, election season is also upon us, and we can expect to see an increase in political signs and campaign messaging throughout the community. October reminds us that Ocean Hills Country Club is both a neighborhood and a community. It is a place where residents celebrate traditions, participate in civic life, and enjoy the freedom to express themselves while respecting the shared standards that help keep our community attractive and welcoming. While these seasonal activities ref lect the diverse interests and traditions of our residents, they also serve as a good opportunity to review a few important community guidelines designed to maintain the beauty, safety, and harmony of OHCC. Holiday Decorations: Halloween decorations are welcome, and residents are encouraged to celebrate the season with creativity and good taste. Per the OHCC Handbook, holiday decorations may be displayed beginning five days before a holiday and must be removed within five days afterward. Decorations may be placed within a resident's fenced or walled area and may be attached to the exterior of the home, including the garage. However, decorations and lighting are not permitted on roofs. As we look beyond Halloween, residents may also begin planning for the winter holiday season. Under the Handbook, winter holiday decorations are permitted beginning on the Friday following Thanksgiving and may remain in place through the Wednesday of the first full week following Jan. 1. This extended period recognizes the special nature of the holiday season while allowing residents ample time to decorate and celebrate. As always, please be considerate of your neighbors. Sound- emitting decorations are prohibited, and illuminated displays should be positioned in a manner that respects the privacy and comfort of nearby homes. Political Signs and Election Messaging: Election years naturally generate interest and participation, and California law protects a homeowner's right to display non-commercial signs, including political signs. At OHCC, these signs may only be displayed within a homeowner's separate interest, such as a yard, window, door, balcony, or exterior wall of the residence. For everyone's safety and enjoyment, political signs may not create a traffic hazard, be attached to vegetation, or be displayed on roofs or patio covers. Election-related signs may be installed no earlier than 90 days before an election and must be removed within 15 days following the election. Residents should also be aware that signs and posters may not exceed nine square feet in size, while f lags and banners may not exceed 15 square feet. Respecting Dierences: One of the strengths of our community is the diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and opinions represented among our residents. Whether your focus this fall is decorating for Halloween, supporting a candidate, preparing for the upcoming holidays, or simply enjoying the cooler weather, we encourage everyone to exercise consideration and respect for their neighbors. By following our established guidelines and treating one another with courtesy, we can ensure that Ocean Hills remains the welcoming and attractive community we all value.
