October is Great ShakeOut Month! Did you know that Four Seasons, Hemet, is within eight miles of one of California's most active faults, the San Jacinto fault? Its last major event was a little over 100 years ago and it caused significant damage to Hemet. ARE you prepared? This year's International ShakeOut Day is Oct. 15, when millions of people worldwide will participate in earthquake drills at work, school, or home! At 10:15 am (local time) on 10/15, you can join millions of people across California practicing earthquake safety. While some areas of California are more likely to have earthquakes than others, all of California is at higher risk compared to the rest of the country. You could be anywhere when an earthquake strikes: at home, at work, at school, or even on vacation. What we do now will determine our quality of life after our next big earthquake. Are you prepared to survive and recover quickly? The Great California ShakeOut is an annual opportunity to practice how to be safer during big earthquakes: "Drop, Cover and Hold On." The ShakeOut has also been organized to encourage you, your community, your school, or your organization to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies, and to secure your space in order to prevent damage and injuries. ShakeOut is also a reminder for Californians to be prepared financially, such as by exploring earthquake insurance. The not-for-profit California Earthquake Authority offers earthquake insurance throughout California for homeowners, renters, mobilehome owners and condo- unit owners. COM/CERTSITE Emergency Preparedness Autumn has come along with its beauty and the changes it brings; the weather is cooler, the mornings are sharp, and the colors are bright. Four Seasons has also undergone a major change. State Bill 1572 obliged us to get rid of the non-functional turf in areas watered with potable water. In Four Seasons, this work was carried out mostly in the East Legends area and along portions of the east side of Four Seasons Boulevard. Over the course of the last month, our landscaping team removed the existing turf, rototilled the soil, put in a new irrigation system, and prepared the ground for the new landscaping palette. We would like to say thank you to our residents for your patience and understanding while this work was being carried out, and we also want to thank the crews for having put in the effort to keep dust and debris as low as possible. The California Meadow garden, which was selected by our residents, has now been completed. It was thought out carefully using water-wise and native plants. When you drive along Four Seasons Boulevard and pass through the East Legends, you'll see some new green ground covers and f lowering shrubs as well as winding walking paths. Once the plants have taken root, spread out, and grown, California natives and other water-friendly plants will have created a beautiful and relaxing area for all to enjoy. We will keep using native California shrubs and plants as we replace others that need it. This will help make our community's landscape more beautiful, unified, and water-wise.
