| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | October 2026 | 11 Don't Burn Your Plants Many of our residents have installed drought tolerant landscaping which includes rock and plant material. If you have replaced your lawn with rock (like Arizona River Rock) you could be burning up the plants you installed. Rock collects heat from the sun and stores that heat for many hours after sunset. This heat penetrates into the soil and burns the roots of the plants. To avoid this, you should have a minimum of six inches or more of open space around the perimeter of each plant. Mulch should be placed in this area to hold the moisture in the ground. As plants grow, you may need to expand this open space. Installing drip irrigation systems to conserve water is a wise move, but remember, all plants require a certain amount of water and some drip irrigation systems do not provide enough water or become clogged. Nitrates in the water harden when small orifices are used to emit the water. Once every four to six months you should check your drip system and soaker hoses to ensure enough water is getting to your plants. This is an easy task- just rub your finger over the opening or insert a toothpick into the drip orifice to remove the calcium. Once the clogs are removed, check the time on the system to make sure plants are getting enough water, especially in these very hot months. You may also contact EMWD to help adjust your irrigation system. Through their Landscapes for Living program (https://www.emwd.org/save- with-us/landscapes-living), you can get a complimentary outdoor irrigation assessment with helpful recommendations to improve your irrigation system. They also provide a no-cost installation of weather-based irrigation controllers and other water-saving devices. This year we are expecting a wetter-than-average rain and storm season for California later this fall and winter. Please be sure to turn off your irrigation system while it is raining. This will save money and overwatering of the plants which can cause severe damage. As usual, if plants die, they need to be replaced. Replacement with the same plant material does not require approval. As per the Architectural Standards and Regulations, if you wish to install drought tolerant landscaping or install alternate plant material, approval must be received by the Architectural Review Committee. I am sure we are all grateful for the hot summer weather to be over with. Welcome to fall. The Facilities Committee has been actively working as we maintain and update our community. Some of the projects we have been working on are: • Repairing and replacing solar panels for the swimming pool • Scheduling pavement repair work to begin in the Spring of 2027 • Working with EPC to install emergency equipment in the Ballroom • Updating access equipment at our entrance gates We work in teams of two, on monthly inspections throughout our community to ensure areas, such as common buildings, fencing, streets, and your community equipment are all in top order. It is rewarding to update and repair every item that needs attention. We are fortunate to have a great maintenance technician, Tim, who assists in keeping things in great working condition. We have a dedicated group of volunteers who actively strive to keep Four Seasons functioning at top level performance. Ensuring our neighborhood is in great condition at every level is paramount. We encourage our neighbors to let us know any area that needs attention. Should we miss anything, please help this committee to work on matters that need to be looked at. FYI, the committee also looks for new committee members to support our efforts in keeping Four Seasons in good order.
