6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2026 | Community Awareness Supervisor's Message By Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez One of my major goals is to have a healthier district 5! To achieve this goal, my office has partnered with Bienestar is Wellbeing to bring two-day health clinics to district 5. My office provided a total of $96,000 in Unincorporated Communities Initiative funds to hold a two-day free health clinic in Moreno Valley in April, and one in August in Banning, serving hundreds of residents. In addition, we're planning another health clinic in San Jacinto on Dec. 5 and 6. Please save the date and stay tuned for more information. Residents can receive dental services, such as X-rays, fillings, cleanings and non-surgical extractions; vision services, including full eye exams, glaucoma screenings, and free prescription glasses; and general medical services, including screenings for diabetes, hypertension, and cholesterol. For more information on our health clinics and all district 5 programs, visit our website at https://rivcodistrict5.org/ By Michele Walter If you did not have the opportunity to attend our last program on being prepared in an emergency, you can watch it on Channel 97. You can also go to our website under Community Awareness and watch it there. 5 SIGNS OF A SCAM If you spot any of these tactics, stop and walk away. You're probably being scammed. ey contacted you: When you contact a business, you know who's on the other end of the line. But when someone contacts you rst, you can't be certain they're telling the truth. You don't know if they are who they say they are. And remember; email addresses and caller ID information can be faked. ey dangle bait-usually money: Let's face it; people simply don't give away large sums of money easily. If someone dangles bait in front of you-a big prize, a shopping spree, an easy loan-for nothing, they're probably lying. ey want your personal information: Anytime anyone asks for your personal information-bank accounts, social security number, etc., you should be on alert. Don't give it away quickly or easily, especially to someone you don't know. You may become a victim of identity the. You have to pay them rst: If someone oers you a prize or employment, but rst you have to pay an upfront fee to get it, you are being scammed. You have to wire money or send gi cards: If you're about to wire money or send gi cards to someone in order to receive a prize, or pay o a debt collector that contacted you … STOP! is may be a scammer trying to take your money. DON'T SCAM THE SCAMMER. Trying to scam your scammer to get "revenge" is a terrible idea. Don't do it. You won't fool them, and you may end up getting scammed aer all. AI is getting incredibly realistic, and scammers are using it to trick people. Trust, but verify and protect your privacy. Questions or concerns, contact Michele Walter at (951) 202- 8009 or email crystalwater@dc.rr.com. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. PLEASE REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUALS, ACTIVITIES, AND THEFTS DIRECTLY TO BANNING POLICE DEPARTMENT, CALL 911! As summer moves into fall, the delegates are busy with social activities, district meetings and getting food together for the senior center in each district. This is a good opportunity to get together and meet other residents, enjoy good food and have fun. The heat has been hard on all of us this summer. Remember to hydrate and look at the tips that were placed in the August newsletters. Be safe. Check on your neighbors. The delegates' role in the upcoming election will be to verify the votes. That is the only role of the Delegate Assembly. Please remember to be kind to each other during this stressful time. Each has their own beliefs and opinions, but let's try to work through this and come together. SMILE as you see residents, it goes the extra mile. Delegate Assembly Report
