SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | NOVEMBER 2026 11 By Clare Mendez, Resident An amazing group of athletes and gamers competed for gold, silver, and bronze medals this September and October. As always, our residents delivered outstanding performances. In swimming, Bill Coles won seven gold medals, taking first place in every event he entered: the 25- and 50-yard freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke races, plus the 75-yard medley. Wow! Husband and wife Scott and Mary Campbell each earned five gold medals in their respective swimming competitions. Diana Carofano won one gold and one silver, while Michael Shynn earned one silver and three bronze medals. Chuck Orrico won the Division D horseshoe event and placed first in bowling for his age group. Sly Goins also earned gold in horseshoes, winning Division C. In women's golf, Libby Linton placed second after nine holes to earn a silver medal. Victoria Wood won silver in the women's 18-hole competition, while her husband, Joe Wood, finished first in the men's 18-hole division. Congratulations to Ken Kupetsky, who won gold in pickleball, and Scott Harrington, who earned silver. In billiards, all three medalists in the women's competition live at SDV: Jona Jetter won gold, Mary Campbell took silver, and Susan Stevens earned bronze. In the men's competition, Joe Wood won gold in Division A, and Frankie Marques won gold in Division C. But wait, there's more: Diana Carofano and Bill Coles each won gold in bench press. In bowling, Judy Cherpin earned silver, and Chuck Orrico won gold. In track and field, Jennifer Shynn collected two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, while Frank Ross earned one gold and one silver. Finally, Mary Campbell won the women's Fun-Tathlon, with Diana Carofano finishing second. What an amazing OLDlympics year! We hope you'll consider competing next year and bringing home the glory. This year's event drew 580 participants. I'm unsure of the numbers from SDV, so this list of winners may be incomplete. Congratulations to Our OLDlympics Award Winners
