creative writers A few thousand years ago a hairy cave man put a mark on a cave wall and told his friends that it meant that while he was out hunting for saber tooth tigers his mother-in-law came to visit and rearranged his cave. His friends told him that the mark was not very clear on the subject and years later writing was invented. True story. And that is why we have a creative writers group here at Sun Lakes. Our group meets every first Monday from 3 to 5 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room, but our next meeting is moved to Mon., Sept. 9, so that you can enjoy the Labor Day Holiday (which is on the first Monday). Whether you are a novice, a pro or something in between you will both enjoy and benefit from our meetings. You will get helpful suggestions on your work in progress and be entertained by the writings of fellow members. A five minute challenge is the highlight of every meeting where we take a subject as innocuous as say the word "why," or "what one wish could you have," and create paragraphs right there on the spot. They are often humorous, sometimes serious and at times totally thought provoking. Info., Roger Smith, 769-2806. meditation… a pathway to truth We wonder about the purpose of life… What higher purpose than to discover our True Nature? Meditation, an integral part of proceeding on a path of Self (God) – Realization, promises to do just that. When the mind with its myriad thoughts becomes quiet and still, we can feel what lies beyond. The Pure, Non-Dual (only ONE) Consciousness lies beyond and is our True Eternal Being. Satsang (group meeting with a spiritual aim) begins with a 15 minute meditation followed by a discourse, the subject of which is given below. A short video clip is also presented by a teacher adhering to the same teaching of Non-Duality. Questions are warmly encouraged and Satsang concludes with a 5 minute silent meditation. We meet the following Wednesdays: 9/4 Resistance to Truth – the struggle between self and Self 9/11 Experience: Fodder for the Enlightenment Process 9/18 Beckoning Silence 9/25 Into the Heart of Being We meet every Wednesday from 3:30 – 4:45 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room.
