friends of bocce If you forgot to enter your team for the Fall Tournament, our new Tournament Chair has agreed to give you a little leeway. She will accept entries until noon on Aug. 31, so hop to it! Deliver them to 1288 Pleasant Valley. Captains, the bocce schedules will be hand-delivered to your door. It will be up to you to get copies to your teammates. Fall play will begin the week of Sept. 9. We'll be using split times for this tournament, and your schedule will reflect that. We'll begin the fall playing at 5, 6, 7 and 8 pm. Thereafter, we will move to spring times, 3, 4, 5, and 6 pm. We're trying to outfox the weatherman! The Tournament will end the week of Nov. 11 with playoffs the following week. We will finish the year well before Thanksgiving this year,when we will take our annual holiday break. Mark your calendars for our Italian Dinner held this year on Oct. 20. Please check your October Lifestyles and our bulletin board for all the information. The dates have been changed to the first and second Wednesday of Sept., Oct., and Nov. at 5 pm. The new captains are Gail Matejka (Italy), Bob Walter (Croatia), Larry Ellis (England) and Dave Huetten (Portugal). They will contact their teams with dates. You may be on a different team this time to make sure all teams are even. This league is for all levels of play and with player substitution allowed. If you want to join this league or have questions concerning our changes, please contact Michele Walter at 845-2002. Our pizza and beer mixers have had great turn outs. This mixer is once a month on the third Wednesday at 5 pm. We have had some non-tennis players join our club just to have fun at our mixers and events. Men and women of all levels of play are welcome. Our ladies USTA league has started it's fall and winter league. Please come out and support our ladies 3.5 team. The schedule will be posted at the south courts. For our men's and women's doubles championship, Sept. 13 - 15, the women will start Friday at 6 pm and finish on Saturday. Depending on how many men teams we have, the men may possibly start on Friday evening also and continue Saturday and finals on Sunday. We will use the north courts if necessary. Please start thinking of a partner. The sign up sheets are posted at the South Clubhouse. We MUST have at least five teams of men and five teams of women in order to have a draw. We would like to get as many teams as possible playing this year. This will be a regular draw just like the mixed doubles championship with no consolation round.
