international culture club dinner dance club Welcome back all you travelers. With the glory of "fall" all around us, we are looking forward to another wonderful year of dining and dancing. Since it has started to cool a little, we seem to enjoy finding those "dressy" outfits that make us feel so special. Since many of our members were able to get dance shoes, there should be many dancers on the floor going for long periods of time. This month's dance is Sat., Oct. 19, where we will be treated to an evening of wonderful tunes played by one of our favorite bands, The Sophisticats. The doors open at 5:30 pm so everyone can come and share their fun summer of travels. The Sophisticats will play from 6 to 9:30 pm. Our menu sounds delicious. We will start with a mouth-watering "fresh berry salad." The entrée options are: Slow-cooked Tri-Tip served with roasted potatoes and julienne vegetables for $22. The vegetarian's choice is a stuffed spinach and mushroom manicotti which will be served with the julienne vegetables for $20. Or you can choose the Shrimp Louie which will be $21. After you have enjoyed one of these meals, you will find a delectable dessert called "tuxedo truffle cake" with a cup of coffee. You definitely won't want to miss this fabulous evening out. Sign-ups for this dance will be on Thurs., Oct. 10, in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Table selections take place at 2:30 pm so be sure to be early and have all paperwork completed. If you sign-up for the dance but find that you are unable to attend, call Carol Rhine at 845-5962 before 3 pm on the day of the dance and she will see that you can pick up your meal and take it home. Wow, aren't we the luckiest people in the world! international dancers We had a very busy August and September. We've had multiple performances, sometimes two separate locations in one day. Our Vamos de Fiesta, chaired by Sussy Arubiaga, at the South Clubhouse was a huge success. Three guest dancers brought the audience to their feet. Many members carpooled to attend the annual E Hula Mau competition festival in Long Beach. It was a wonderful day of dancing, shopping and eating. Last month we had a Fashion Show Luncheon to raise money for the EPAP Animal Rescue group. We had outstanding support from the community, receiving over 50 gifts to be raffled off. Ticket sales resulted in $2,400 to the Animal Rescue group. The models had a good time showing the fashions from RV Casuals, which is owned by Ted and Kay Palotay, Sun Lakes residents. A new routine has been introduced which we will perform at the Four Seasons New Year's Eve party. It will also be seen at the Stardust Showcase April 11 and 12. We will perform two numbers at the upcoming Follies Show. We learn many different styles of dance including light jazz, Broadway, production, military, precision and we offer modeling. We practice six to eight numbers for various shows. Practices are held Wednesdays and Fridays at the South Clubhouse from 2 to 4 pm. Each student has the option to do as many or as few dances as they like. Costuming is hand made by the students. Emily Alvarez is the head seamstress with several who assist. The costumes are paid for with performance fees and activities. We are available to perform at your function or model at your fashion shows. Contact any of the dancers or Evelyn Hawkins at 845-7199.
