alzheimer's & dementia helpers Last month I told you to look for us under our new name, The Sun Lakes Memory Care and Support Group. It is taking us a little longer than planned to change our name, but it will happen. In the next month or two continue to look for us and our new name. We are changing it so that we can include those of you living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or any form of memory loss. We are still here for those of you living with Alzheimer's and Dementia, but are here for so many more of you. Even though our new name isn't official yet, we are here for all of you. Stop in at our next meeting and see what we are all about. Our next meeting will be Thurs., Oct. 17, at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Our guest speaker will be Mary Waller a Sun Lakes resident. Mary is from Waller's Elder Care Referral Service, a licensed agency. She will be speaking on general information on facilities and also on nutrition. This is a dynamic speaker you won't want to miss, lunch following in our Sun Lakes restaurant for those who wish. Alzheimer's patients are welcome at this meeting. Drop them off at the Arts and Crafts Room for game and entertainment with our very capable volunteers. This month Joey Mercado and friends return for another fun visit. Joey is a great ventriloquist and always has a new friend for us to meet. Last month Susan Brown entertained, as usual, all had a great time. Our next caregivers support group meets on Tues., Oct. 8, at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose room. This group is open to all caregivers, not just a caregiver to an Alzheimer's person. Come enjoy and discuss care giving issues, or whatever is on your mind. This meeting is all about you, the caregiver. Refreshments are served at this meeting. If you have any questions regarding the Tuesday support group contact Diane at 769-0130. Remember the Tuesday support group is for caregivers only, no patients. If you have questions or would live to learn more we have reading materials we can share with you, contact Shirley 845-2008 or Anne 845-8700. Continuing with our educational information (50 things you should know about Alzheimer's disease) here are # 16, 17 and 18. #16: Dehydration, reactions to medication and head injuries can cause temporary dementia. This kind of dementia can be treated and often cured. #17 Many people misplace items or forget people's names, this does not meant they have Alzheimer's disease. #18 If memory loss begins to interfere with daily living, Alzheimer's could be the reason. parkinson's support We meet January through October, typically on the 2nd Wed. of the month, 11 am - 12:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus room.
