Veterans Walk Nov. 9, 9:30 – 11:30am, Main Clubhouse. Please join us for our 2nd Annual Veteran Walk to honor all who have served our country. This walk is going to be held inside Sun Lakes and all of the proceeds from this event are going to the Wounded Warrior Project. It will be a two mile walk around Country Club Drive to Riviera, and back up Country Club Drive to the Main Clubhouse. Registration forms can be picked up in the Recreation Office starting Mon., Sept. 9. The cost is $20 pp (checks only) and includes a goodie bag with an event t-shirt, continental breakfast after the race, and the opportunity to listen to two decorated veterans. For any residents that are unable to walk, you can still participate by entering your golf cart into the event. We ask that the carts are decorated with a U.S. Flag, a Service Flag, or a Wounded Warrior Flag to support the event. Please note, golf cart use is ONLY for disabled residents. NOTE: If you know anyone who would like to sponsor this event, please have them contact Charlye at 845-2191. Continental breakfast is for walk participants ONLY. Please carpool or use your golf cart to come up to the start line. Veteran Walk Schedule 9:30 am: Presentation of Colors and National Anthem 9:40 am: START OF WALK 10 - 10:30 am: Continental Breakfast 11 am: Veteran Speakers 11:30 am: Closing Remarks Sun Lakes Marines & Friends Coming soon… The Annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball on Nov. 9. We will start the day in what has become a tradition with the raising of the Marine Corps flag, and a bugle call promptly at 8 am at the Main Clubhouse flagpole. A no-host Breakfast will follow the ceremony with two specials: Steak & Eggs, SOS, or you may order off the regular menu. All Sun Lakes residents and guests are cordially invited to attend. The celebration will continue in the evening starting at 5:30 pm with a nohost bar. The Colors will be presented by Color Guards at 6:30 pm. There will be a ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake, followed by the Commandants message and a toast. Dinner will be served after which we will hear from our special speaker regarding current Marine activities. Following our speaker, there will be special presentations and a 50/50 drawing, proceeds of which will go to TOYS FOR TOTS. Music will be provided for your listening and dancing pleasure. There will be drop off boxes for TOTS FOR TOTS. Please bring new unwrapped toys. Attire will be semi-formal. If you would like to wear your uniform feel free.
