mystery theater & more Here's the latest scoop on what is happening with the Mystery Theater and with their top rated show, "That's Entertainment," which will hit the Sun Lakes stage on Feb. 27. The main topic for our October business meeting was to elect a slate of new club officers for 2014. Our current officers had held their positions for two full terms (four years) and felt it was time for someone else in the group to hold the reins and make those leadership decisions. Our members elected the following slate of officers that will begin their terms on Jan. 1: Bill Shova, president; Jan Stapel, Vice President; Lin Volturo, Secretary; and Lou Evans, Treasurer. For "That's Entertainment" it was announced that the directors and producers had decided that the theme,"California Here I Come" had an enormous list of possible songs from which our performers could select songs, and it was felt that there was no need to have another theme for the second half of the show. We also left open the possibility, for those members whose backgrounds lean more towards Broadway and Show material, that if a song did not specifically mention a location outside of California that song could be selected for inclusion in the show. Even though this show is more than five months away and now only in its planning stages we want to hit the ground running when rehearsals start right after the first of the year. We also wish to let it be known that we are always on the lookout for new talent. If you are, or know someone that is, new to Sun Lakes we encourage you and they to audition to be a part of this wonderful show. For people that may not be current members of Mystery Theater that wish to be in this show, we will be holding open auditions at the conclusion of our November monthly business meeting. That meeting will be held at 1 pm on Tues., Nov. 5. The auditions will commence at approximately 1:45 pm. Regarding the play that we will be producing during its run of June 5, through June 8, 2014, we have named Lou Evans as the producer and director. This will be another one of the famous Michael Parker blatant farces (of "Amorous Ambassador" and "Hotbed Hotel" fame), appropriately entitled, "Sex Please, We're Sixty." You will for certain want to put these dates on your calendar as this will be an event that you will not want to miss! Taking no time to bask in the accolades of our very successful play, "Miracle on South Division Street," we are already engaged in our next project, Readers Theater, which will be performed at 7 pm on Nov. 16 at the South Clubhouse. The play is "The Third Man Theme" and will be directed by Ron Nelson. As usual, we will be serving wine and cheese prior to the performance. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the cost of the tickets is $6. Call Harriet Briant at 769-0383 for reservations. A new slate of officers for the next two years has been nominated and they are: Martie Steggell, President; Pat Naylor, 1st Vice-President; Ron Nelson 2nd Vice-President; Rose Hermanson, Secretary and Harriet Briant, Treasurer. If elected, they will be installed at our Christmas party. The Drama Club does two plays and two Readers Theaters per year, and has numerous social activities.
