Ping Pong Club If you have ever walked through the entrance to the exercise room or to the hair salon during the morning hours, you have probably heard laughter and other happy sounds coming from the aerobics room. If you've peeked through the windows, you know that the source of this banter is coming from ping pong players. If you would like to see why they are so excited about their sport, come by and play with us. New players are always great to have around, since they are always so enthusiastic about the sport and so eager to learn everything. However, you don't really have to play to enjoy the sport. It's always exciting to watch a good ping pong match. Sometimes games go into deuce three, four, or five times before they are settled. So even if you are not ready to play yet, come on in, grab a front row seat, (we have chairs available), pick out some players and cheer them on to victory. They will appreciate it and you will have the time of your life watching an exciting and fast moving game that even seniors can excel at. Join us in the aerobics room Monday through Saturday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. If you are not sure this game is for you, come in and just watch. When you see how much exercise you can get while have fun, you will want to join us. In October, we held our annual membership meeting and dinner. During the meeting, President Irve Sturner recapped the year's activities, including the US Open and Wimbledon tennis and lunch events, the July 4, Red versus Blue competition, the Mixed Doubles competition, as well as practice and learning opportunities provided by himself and Randy Fedorchuk. It was a nice reminder of all the tennis activities that we had during the previous year, most of which we old folks didn't remember without Irve's presentation. In addition to the annual report, we held elections for the 2014 Committee. The election lacked the tension and contentiousness of Gore v. Bush, because there were only five candidates for the five open positions. So with at least one vote each, the elected members are Irve Sturner, Howard Lyon, Barbara Miller, Romy Villena, and Steve Hovey. 2013 Committee members Jo Fedorchuk and Tina Soeten did not seek re-election and were thanked for their work and service. The new board met on Nov. 2, and selected Irve as President, Steve as Vice President, Barbara as Treasurer, Howard as Secretary, and Romy as Member- at-Large, who will be in charge of the monthly Play Days. Weather permitting, Play Days will continue to be held every month on the last Saturday, beginning at 8:30 am. Play Days are open to all tennis players, not just club members, and are a great way to get re-introduced to playing tennis and to meet other folks who love the game. On a trial basis, the club will promote building those connections by gathering in the Bistro after the Play Day to sip some coffee or tea, lie about our skills, and complain about the opponents' line calls. Should be fun. ~ Steve Hovey SPORTS & Outdoor ACTIVITIES | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2013 39
