memory care group (formerly alzheimer's & dementia helpers) December is a month of celebration and gift giving. Whatever holiday you celebrate, we wish you a happy one. This month we also celebrate our new name; we are now the Sun Lakes Memory Care Group. We are here for all of you living with mild cognitive impairment, and those of you with Alzheimer's and Dementia. Any memory loss disorder is welcome. We are here with knowledge to share, and support to give. We have a different guest speaker each month who will share their knowledge with you. You can come to the meeting and not worry about leaving your loved one home alone. We have a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers, who play games, take walks and entertain them. You can drop you loved one off at the arts and craft room, right next door to the multipurpose room where the meetings are held. This month we will not have a meeting but will have our annual holiday luncheon. The holiday luncheon will be on Thurs., Dec. 19, at 12 pm, in the Sun Lakes Restaurant. Caregivers and loved ones both welcome. If you wish to participate, bring a Christmas ornament or holiday décor item for exchange. Watch your budget; don't spend more than $10. Our Caregivers Support Group meets on Tues., Dec. 10, at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. This group is open to all caregivers, not just a caregiver to an Alzheimer's person. Come enjoy and discuss caregiving issues, or whatever is on your mind. This is a meeting all about you, the caregiver. Refreshments are served at this meeting. If you have any questions regarding the Tuesday support group, contact Diane at 797-0130. Remember, the Tuesday support group is for caregivers only, no patients. If you have questions or would like to learn more, we have reading materials we can share with you. Contact Shirley at 845-2008 or Anne at 845-8700. Remember; look for us under our new name, Sun Lakes Memory Care Group. Continuing with our educational information (50 things you should know about Alzheimer's disease) Here are numbers 23 and 24. #23 early diagnosis means you can take advantage of medications and treatments. #24 an early diagnosis means a person can make medical and financial plans for their future care. social clubs & groups | sun lakes lifestyles | december 2013 |23
