FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Well, here we are again, right in the middle of the holiday season. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. What a wonderful time of year for enjoying friends and family, but also for those of faith to celebrate their beliefs. Sometimes I feel that commercialism has taken over the true meaning of the season. I still remember when the Christmas season did not start until after Thanksgiving. There was the Thanksgiving Day parade where Santa Claus arrived and the next week local TV stations started airing kids Christmas programming. We had Mr. Jing-a-ling and Santa Claus. Now the stores are setting up displays right after Labor Day. To tell the truth I do not like it. However, my negative feelings go away when I see my grandkids eyes light up as they arrive and see the lights and display in my yard. The anticipation and excitement on their faces is priceless and warms my heart. If I have previously been slow to warm to the season it only takes one wide eyed grandchild to kick start my enthusiasm and gets me into the holiday spirit. In addition to our biological family we truly enjoy celebrating the season with our extended Sun Lakes family. During this time of year we understand what makes Sun Lakes such a wonderful place to live. The community's warmth and concern for all of its residents is very evident. No one is ever alone. No one has to spend the holiday by themselves, and everyone can find an avenue for celebrating socially and religiously. The Districts all have wonderful parties that are reasonably priced and fun to attend. Also, there are events put on by the Recreation Department, such as By George Moyer, SLCC HOA President the annual Tree Lighting ceremony event on Dec. 2, that are designed for the whole community to enjoy. On top of all this there are the numerous clubs that have their parties and events. The November Lifestyles listed over thirteen of them. If none of these interest you why not try the Sun Lakes Chorale's Holiday Concert. They will be performing on Dec. 6, 7, and 8, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Their shows are always spectacular, and will surely put you in a holiday mood. In closing this short message Sandy and I would like to wish all of you a happy holiday season. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, or some other belief, it is important to us that you remain safe and we can celebrate this wonderful season together again next year. Happy Holidays! community news | sun lakes lifestyles | december 2013 | 3
