Delegate Assembly Report Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly This is the month of celebrations… Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year all happen within the next 30 some days. That is our Christian-Judeo heritage. That is the foundation of our Constitution, and don't tell me I can't celebrate them the way I want to. How am I offending someone when I say Happy Hanukkah, or Merry Christmas, or Happy New Year? In fact, they are offending me, saying I shouldn't use those words. I guess I should add that it is not a holiday tree, it is a Christmas tree! We have a lot to be thankful for and we should celebrate with our friends and relatives and neighbors. Every district has a party during the holiday season. Why are you staying home and not enjoying with others? There are dinner dances, brunches, breakfasts, tours and other special events during December. Be part of it. A crowd always makes a gala event. Most of the districts combine with other districts to insure a larger crowd, it is more fun with a lot of people. Our district has joined three other districts for a holiday dinner dance and a holiday brunch. There are a lot of residents who do not want to go out in the evening, hence, the holiday brunch. Of course, many people attend both affairs. If you are interested in attending, give me a call. Our events are always open to all of our residents and their guests. If you are lonely during the holidays, it is your own fault. There are so many events in our complex during the holidays you should join with others and have fun. Sun Lakers are the nicest people on earth. Sit next to one at a dinner and soon you are treated like a long lost cousin. Of course, there is nothing wrong with asking your neighbors if they are going to the district party and agree to sit together. There are some who hesitate to do this because they do not understand what it means to live in a gated community. Our residents are closer, friendlier and do many more things together than in ordinary neighborhoods. That is why you moved to Sun Lakes Country Club — for the friendship and togetherness, isn't it? Call your district delegate and enjoy the holidays by celebrating with others. Happy Hanukkah! A very Merry Christmas! And a Prosperous and Happy New Year! 4 | sun lakes lifestyles | december 2013 | community news Rescued! EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE Once upon a time there was a beautiful animal, a German Shepherd. Being the macho guy that he was (not neutered) he left his home in search of love and adventure. He soon found out, come dinnertime, that adventure is not what it is cracked up to be. His nose told him that something yummy was cooking up in Sun Lakes' north side by the train tracks. He was spotted and we received the call. Enter Lori Hutchins with her lasso. With the help of a kind grounds keeper, Miguel, who happened to be passing by riding his cart, the dog was quickly captured and soon safely riding in Lori's car. He had no collar, so he was transported to the EPAP kennel to spend some time until a search for his owner was launched. However, Lori's caring heart could not bear to leave the Shepherd in the kennel in the cold of the night. She became an instant foster "mama" and brought him to her home. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped at the Craft Fair and to those who visited and purchased items to benefit our cause. Thank you also for the wonderful items received which were received in beautiful baskets by Chris Cobel. Jane also reported that a major grocery store has offered to donate all its unsold Halloween items for the next craft show table's decoration. We would like to take this opportunity to give thanks and best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, to all of Sun Lakes employees who give us a hand when necessary. The same wishes are warmheartedly sent to all of you who share our love of animals and help in some ways, (donations, volunteer, join the group). You are all invited to the next meeting on Mon., Jan. 20. Hot off the press: Osso, our beautiful rescue, has been returned to his owner. Info., 769-4934.
