30 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2014 | CLUBS & GROUPS CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2014 31 Welcome to all our new dancers. For those of you who missed our workshop last month, all i can say is we had a great time (as usual). We missed you. hope you will join us next time. Line dancing may bring to mind images of cowboys and barnyard square dances, but there is far more to it than that. it is a great workout for both the mind and the body and it can also help improve memory skills. Line dancing requires us to remember dance steps and combinations, so we are exercising our memories every time we step on the dance floor. For older adults, this popular form of dancing can help improve memory because it engages us in an activity that forces us to use our memory. as line dancers we benefit from all of these perks while enjoying a fun activity. Class schedule: Wednesdays, 4 to 5:20 pm for beginners and 5:20 to 6 pm for intermediate. if you have any questions, please call Priscilla at (951) 922-0755. ~ Priscilla Robles Heart & Soul Line Dance our first Valentine's day dance sold out by Feb. 7. We'll report on this event in the next Breeze. our next event will be the spring Fling, on saturday, May 17, which will feature the band skyline Xpress, and we'll have catered heavy hors d'oeuvres, beverages and dancing fun. everyone is welcome. This month we're pleased to feature Bob Jernejcic. Bob moved here to be closer to his adult children and their families, and because he liked our Four seasons community. he said, "i danced when i was young. When i moved here i wanted to meet people. i like music and dancing, so i started attending the Ballroom and social dance Club, and i'm happy i did." Now Bob enjoys not only dancing here with us in our Ballroom, but going out dancing at hemet West, sierra dawn, Loma Linda senior Center and sun Lakes. Way to go, Bob! ~ Willis Fagan Ballroom Dance Club Line Dancing a lot of new homeowners have joined line dancing this year and are surprised at how much exercise it is and how tired they are at the end of class. dancing involves learning something new which challenges your body and your mind, both of which are good for us as we age. Learning new ways to move and new footwork takes a lot of effort, both mentally and physically. it is also a lot of fun and you get to meet new friends. The beginning class starts at 3 pm every Tuesday and is forty 45 minutes. We concentrate on the basic steps and dances, including the electric slide. The advanced class begins at 3:45 pm. We are always learning new dances, but, when are brains get tired, we take the time to dance to old favorites. i have had inquiries about square dancing, which i do not teach, but i know someone who has taught for years. i will put a sign-up sheet at the Lodge to see if there is enough interest to look into this further. any questions? Call (951) 769-3889. ~ Martha Franck, Club Captain The Maid's Version is a story that penetrates small town secrets and the punishments they inflict on anyone who exposes them. daniel Woodrell's ninth novel recounts the tragic tale of a fiery 1929 explosion at the arbor dance hall in the small town of West Table, Missouri. alma degeer dunahew works as the maid for a prominent citizen in West Table. her scandalous but beloved younger sister is one of the 42 killed in the explosion at the local dance hall. Who is to blame? Mobsters from st. Louis? embittered local gypsies? The preacher who railed against the loose morals of the waltzing couples? or could it really have been a colossal accident? alma thinks she knows the answer and that its roots lie in a dangerous love affair. her dogged pursuit of justice makes her an outcast and causes a long-standing rift with her own son. By telling her story to her grandson, alek, she finally gains some solace and peace. But as the title suggests, her story is only her version. as alek's narration unfolds, we see that in a small town there are no real secrets, merely facts that people agree not to speak. if you are interested, you are welcome to join us in the Lodge on March 11 at 9:30 am for our discussion of The Maid's Version. For more information, please call doreen sanders at (951) 769-1913. ~ Peggy Dashel Book Club Bob Jernejcic Some Dance Clubbers at a recent Thursday night practice The Pass Area Cultural Alliance invites you to a world-class comedy night on Fri., April 4, 7 pm at the Banning Woman's Center featuring professional comedians who have performed all over the country.
