From the President – Henry Negrete: Golf etiquette on the green… My first article on golf etiquette provided tips on preparations to be made prior to our round of golf. The same article also covered teeing off and fairway etiquette. So, I believe we ended up on the fairway, approaching the green. Ahhh yes, the green! For most dedicated golfers the green is considered sacred ground and all golfers should treat it as such. In other words, silence is golden and courtesy and common sense rule on sacred ground. There are numerous things we can discuss, but we'll stay with the basics. Players can share responsibility on the green or the lowest handicapped player can take the lead. First and foremost, locate every ball in your group. Next, identify your ball and repair your ball mark and others you may find. The marks need not be your own but make it a habit of fixing any blemishes on the green, not only for your benefit but for the benefit of others. Mark your ball and take your read. Wait for other players to do the same. Determine who is away and who is closest to the pin. Player closest to the pin should pull the flag for the group and, please remember, place the flag stick off the green and place it on the ground gently and quietly. Now that everyone has marked their ball and taken their reads, begin putting. In gathering your putting line do not walk on other players imaginary line to the hole. Do not stand in front of a player ready to putt and, also, watch your shadow and do not allow it to interfere with the player putting. Please remember, when other players in your group are in the process of putting, freeze in place and be silent. The first player putting out should pick up the flag stick and replace it once all have putted out. Minimize delays. If, for whatever the reasons, you are not ready to putt let the other players know so that someone else may putt and avoid delays. If a player has not reached the green with putter in hand do not wait for that player to arrive. Begin preparations and start putting if necessary. Also remember, at no time, should players go into a rage, throw clubs or use profanity. Such behavior has no place in this game we love and must never be part of one's game since it most likely will make people feel uneasy and ruin their round of golf. See ya' on the next tee. Although we have a competition each week, this club is first and foremost a social club, so come and join us. The club continues to welcome new members, men and women, to join us and enjoy the warming weather and of course the camaraderie that we share with one another. Weekly games are held regularly on Tuesday starting at 7:30 am. Come and join in on the fun. New member applications are available from the Lodge receptionist. Should you have any questions about joining our club, please contact Ross Thomas, (951) 325-2019 or email rthomaspa@ yahoo.com. From the Rules Chair – Cliff Post: The simple truth is golf was faster before we had distance finders. One issue really mystifies me. Why do way too many of us need to measure the distance on a par 3? We play from the same tee box every week. If the flag is in the back, add five yards. If it's in the front, subtract five yards. Add or subtract a few yards for the tee box position. It's better than the time spent with all four golfers standing on the box with gps in hand measuring every par 3. From the Social Chair – Ellen Walsh: It has been another very busy time for the Hemet Four Seasons golfers. The end of May saw the members enjoying another barbecue. Ross & Cheryl Thomas, Lynn & Kaye Smith, Kelly Collier, Merrill Waysack, Cecil Frazier, Dale & Sue Brockett, Don Walsh and Eddie Day made the event special. On June 28, the members of the Four Seasons Golf Club gathered in the Ballroom to honor the Memorial Tournament Award winners and join their friends in celebration. During the month of June, Linda & Henry Negrete spent time prior to the "games" selling tickets. Blair Becker & Russ Brown prepared an interesting slide show. Margie Hobbs and her committee worked very hard to make the evening fun. Lynn Smith & Jay Robinson also spent the month of June gathering door prizes again. This just shows how much can be accomplished when everyone works together! Thank you, Thank you!
