11 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | August 2014 | Crumbs from Cookie: We thank you for your attendance at Chris Proctor's talk last month. Everyone was under the impression that Chris was part of Black Hawk Down but he only saw the site later. It certainly did not take anything away from his career in the Navy! I was delighted to have my grandson, Connor, with me at Chris's talk and after it was over, Chris gave Connor a card to contact him when he enlists next year. We at Four Seasons salute the Proctor family for their service to our country. We hope everyone benefited from Patti Meinhardt's talk on the 25 documents that we need to have in place. When an emergency happens we needn't be unprepared at what we need to do. Always, always, plan ahead. On this subject Stan and Linda Hendrickson came across a book recommendation in the AARP newsletter titled, Check List for Family Survivors, by Sally Hume. The book walks survivors through the many steps needed to take care of business and avoid scams. The Hendrickson's were kind enough to let me borrow it and list it as a resource reference. It is available on Amazon. We plan most of our programs at the beginning of the year so it's hard to work in someone you feel would be a great speaker. Believe it or not, we are already thinking about next year. We could use your help. Even our very best resource, Jennifer Trebler, cannot find anyone to speak on nutrition for seniors! Doctors are not trained in that area. We have been asking around and I had one lead that didn't work out. Anyone know of someone willing to speak for free? I would like to mention Frances Borras, our Sunshine volunteer in charge of having all those desserts for celebrations of life. Frances is notified when a celebration of life will be sponsored by Sunshine and her work begins. She is in charge of the calling, suggesting what we need and then arranging the arrival of desserts. She also takes great care in the dessert table and sending home leftovers. We thank you, Frances, you're fantastic! Volunteers are so important at Four Seasons and in our daily life, but we certainly can overdo. You'll notice that Sunshine volunteers are involved in other committees and outside groups as well. For those of you who cannot make the meetings, you are always part of us and we know your time is well spent. We are constantly searching for assignments for our new volunteers and they can assume roles you held. We miss all four or five of you that cannot make the business meetings but are still there for us. Thank you! The prayer circle held at Marietta Ruppaner's home the third Wed. of each month from 10 to11 am welcomes residents to attend. Please contact Marietta for further information. We send our love and sympathies to Florence Brown and family. Florence's beloved husband of 48 ½ years, Jim, passed away in mid June. A celebration of life was sponsored by Sunshine and held in the Ballroom. Euclid staff and the Bistro were especially fond of him. Many will miss Jim. We also send our sympathies and love to Jackie Peterson whose husband, Michael, passed on June 17. A private service was held and burial in San Diego. Jackie was very lucky to have supportive neighbors stand by her side during this hard time. For those of you who have suffered a loss that we were unaware of, we send our sympathies and love to you and your families. May rays of Sunshine help you heal. Tidbits from Donna: Do you want to help a friend in need? Friends or other family members who really want to help should make specific offers such as, "I'm going to the farmer's market; can I bring you some vegetables?" "I can stay with Mom on Saturday so you can do some shopping or go to a movie." "I know it's hard for you to get out for dinner, so I'd like to bring dinner to you one night this week." These are small things; the list could get progressively more complex and demanding, but whatever the offer, it should be firm and nonrefundable. Please fill out a *NEEDS* Form at the Lodge Front Desk if you know of someone who needs assistance. Also, if you have knowledge of a friend or neighbor who is living alone, please let them know of the Healthy Elder Life Program (888) 983-5337. They will assist in many ways, including daily phone calls. Also, our bulletin board in the Multipurpose Room has current contact and resource information.
