| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | September 2014 | 32 Bocce Shuffleboard Horseshoes I want to thank those of you who showed an interest in the game of horseshoes again. We had about 22 players who signed up at the front desk to show there are enough players to justify forming a club once again. We had an official meeting to sign up two player teams on Aug. 24 and talked about safety rules and schedules. Since there are only two courts, we can play just 4 teams on each League. This will be a learning curve for all us and we except any suggestion that the players may have since this is a trial run for future seasons. We plan to try a rotation so that all players have a chance to play most of the teams other than their own time slot. Horseshoes has become a popular game in most cities and you will find players playing in competition with each other. Since this is a closed community, we will not be able to do that but with your help we should be able to increase the popularity with word of mouth so we have more than a few leagues. Mike Crimi will be an un-official referee, and will help you make your game fun. We will have each team keep their own scores and turn in a win or loss at the end of each game. Since there are no benches in this area you may want to bring your own chair if you plan on staying over to watch the next teams play. Good luck to all the new teams. Info., Horseshoe Chairperson Ross Brunetto, (951) 926-8295 or Horseshoe Co-Chairperson Mike Crimi. Yes it's true, the Shuffleboard Club is back playing on Thursdays and we have lots of room for returning and new players. If you missed the sign up on Aug. 24, we still need players to fill in for those who need to keep doctor appointments or old commitments. We will keep a playing schedule in the Game Room on the Shuffleboard information board so you can see the starting times. Shuffleboard is a great game for those who have a physical impairment or can't bend down to reach things on the ground. This is what makes it popular here at Four Seasons, and the rules are basic since we want folks to have fun. This is a great learning platform for those who want to learn and eventually play a more involved game at the Hemet Shuffleboard Center. We anticipate starting early this year and ending early so we do not conflict with the upcoming holidays at the end of the year. We plan to have a joint potluck with the Bocce Club again. To celebrate the winners, we have a luncheon at the end of the season. Come see for yourself and drop by any Thursday. Info., Shuffleboard Chairperson, Ross Brunetto, (951) 926-8295 Bocce has officially started and for the next nine weeks the players will be meeting on Sundays starting at 2 pm playing on our new renovated courts. Most of our players will see the difference with the ball movement and will need to learn new techniques to compensate for the new material. If you are new, then you will not know the difference and should enjoy playing on championship style courts. Last year for most of us, the balls had no sense of direction when thrown by the players and seemed to have gone where they wanted to by themselves. We also have new bocce ball sets to help manage your technique. As always, our club depends on players to volunteer for different committees within the club. We depend on our players to give just a small portion of their time before or after each game. We encourage anyone who would like to do more than just play bocce to let one of our committee members know you are available. It takes a multiple number of folks to help the games to continue each week. We welcome at any time during the normal season anyone who is willing to help and I thank you in advance for volunteering. Last year was another exciting Championship Game, and those teams who made it that far had some very intense moments. At the end, The Bocce Boomers beat all the teams and I know they are looking for some more competition. If you missed the bocce sign up, you still can play as a substitute player as a floater, or some teams bring on extra players to cover the team if some of the players cannot make all the games. Meanwhile we have a picture of the Champions from last year to help you remember they are ready to play. Info., Bocce Chairperson, Ross Brunetto, (951) 926-8295.
