COMMUNITy NEWS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2014 9 Neighborly Notes By Bobbie Eckel October is another busy month — both within our community and in the city of Beaumont. Kudos to the following Committee Chairs for giving their reports in person at the General Session of the BOD meeting on Aug. 14: Randy Balt (Communications), Jean Sandoval (Emergency Preparedness), Noel Myers (Finance) and Carol Napolski (Rules & Regulations). Committees are urged to have a representative present at the monthly meetings. Residents need to know who is on the various committees and what each committee is currently working on. Have your items ready for the Garage Sale on Saturday, Oct. 11. Remember that the sales will not be in the Lodge parking lot this year; all goodies will be offered for sale at your home lawn or garage. In an effort to save water in our drought stage, residents held a Dirty Car Contest and Parade last month. What a fun and creative idea! The Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District Board recently took the following action to immediately limit urban use of water: prohibited potable water used for landscapes from runoff to gutters, etc., prohibited the use of a hose which dispenses potable water to wash a motor vehicle unless the hose is equipped with a shut-off nozzle, prohibited the water to clean driveways/sidewalks, prohibited the use of potable water in a decorative water feature unless the water is part of a recirculating system, delineated that outdoor watering be restricted to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for addresses ending in odd numbers and Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for addresses ending in even numbers during the months of May through October. For the months of November through April, odd addresses are limited to Monday and Friday and even addresses Tuesday and Sunday. Watering common area landscaping is prohibited between 8 am and 8 pm. Restaurants will now only serve water if the customer specifically requests it. The community landscape contractors have made adjustments to the common area irrigation system in accordance with the new regulations. The Beaumont newsletter also states that "The reduction in the water use will cause the landscape plant materials to become somewhat stressed and look less healthy. We appreciate your understanding in this matter." Please note that the community landscape maintenance contractors have made the adjustments to common irrigation systems in accordance with the new regulations. The heaters for the Lodge swimming pool will be turned off on Oct. 31; however, the spa will remain heated year round. Work is progressing on the Rec Center II. Current plans indicate that the Aquatic Center will probably have a grand opening in mid-November. Walk or drive by periodically to watch for changes. Please do not use rat poisons to eliminate pests around your homes or businesses. Considerable research has indicated that the procedure is very harmful to wildlife. The toxic food chain starts with small animals or rodents which, in their weakened states, are then eaten by larger predators — which may in turn be eaten by even larger animals. We have rabbits through mountain lions in our area. Anticoagulant rodenticides affect them all. On Saturday, Oct. 25, the city of Beaumont sponsors a Community Clean Up and Recycle Event from 8 am until 12 noon. Beaumont residents are encouraged to bring documents for shredding, scrap metal, green waste, bulky items, bottles and cans, electronic waste and tires (but no wheels). Unacceptable items are auto batteries, paint/oil, insecticides and toxic chemicals, household hazardous waste, sharps or pharmaceuticals. If you have a bulky item and are unable to attend the cleanup day, Waste Management does provide two free large item pick-ups a year. For additional information, call the Beaumont Civic Center at (951) 769-8520. The 2014 Greater Palm Springs LGBT Pride Festival is being held in Palm Springs on Nov. 8 and 9. A group of Four Seasons residents and your Rainbow Group would like to invite you to go and enjoy it as well. The Festival is held on both days at Sunrise Park in Palm Springs Stadium; the parade is on Sunday on E. Ramon Road along historic Palm Canyon Drive. If you are interested and would like more details, please see pspride.org for Festival information, parade route and spectator advice. Early reminder for your calendar. Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, Nov. 2. Questions from Maxine: If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled? Why do croutons come in airtight packages? Aren't they just stale bread to begin with?
