14 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2014 | COMMUNITY NEWS Pride. It's something every veteran feels when thinking about their military service. It's also felt by those families who have lost family members who served their country in wartime or in peace. We need to step back a moment from our everyday lives to consider what veterans have done to allow us the freedoms we have today. The military has been the bulwark for our nation since its founding and continues to be so today. The strength of this group is only possible through the service of men and women who step forward to be a part of this giant and varied web of protection around our nation. Think for a moment why millions and millions of people from around the world want to come to America. True, it's an issue that has great social and political implications which may be burdensome, but there is a big reason why all these people want to come to our country. It's the freedom to pursue hopes and dreams for a better future for themselves and their children; to achieve great things that are simply closed to them in other nations. Those of us who have traveled to other countries around the world see this first hand and know that there's no better place to live than here in America. While we do have many great institutions of learning, a vibrant economy, a solid financial system and medical care and services second to none, it is the military that has always been the one institution that has kept us safe, provided the deterrent against would-be enemies and given all of our other citizens the freedom and security to live their lives and achieve their dreams. We too easily take for granted these freedoms that others yearn for. So I urge our fellow Four Seasons residents to take the time to thank our veterans on Veterans Day for their services to our nation. Some of our local veterans may be seen on the Four Seasons Roll of Honor website which shows photos and short recaps of their military service. The site is accessed through the clubs and groups section of the Four Seasons Homeowners website. All veterans are encouraged to be on the Roll of Honor and may sign up at the Lodge. ~ Dick Bentley, Former Captain, U.S. Army VETERANS DAY 2014 It's that time of year again… Winter Wish. For new residents of Four Seasons, Winter Wish is a Christmas gift and food program for the families of the school children of Beaumont. The children's names are turned in by their teachers and are then checked out by the Winter Wish committee. After all names are cleared two names tags are created for each child, one for a toy and one for an item of clothing. These name tags are then placed on a small Christmas tree that has been set up in businesses around the community at which point local citizens take a tag, buy, wrap and return the gift to those businesses for pick up by the committee for distribution in December. There are also boxes set up for donations of food that are also given to each family. I am proud to say that our residents have been very generous in giving. Last year we took over 140 gift tags and many gave more than the one gift required per tag. This year the gift tags and food donation box should be in the Lodge lobby by Nov. 3 (the last day to return gift to the Lodge is Dec. 6). I know the children of Beaumont can count on us again for our support. ~ Melody Seewooster Winter Wish Join us Saturday, Dec. 13 to tour some of the loveliest homes in Four Seasons.
