CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2014 31 We are looking for players, substitute players, and people who are interested in learning the game. I am happy to teach anyone who wishes to learn the game, either individually or in a small group, your home or mine. Pan is a card game, much on the order of gin in some respects, and played with up to eight people at a table. It is played by both men and women, so men are very welcome as well as women. The game can be played in the day, evening, in a room in the Lodge or in private homes. If you are interested, please call me, Linda Mendelson, at (951) 941-9100 or email me at Goldtoy@earthlink. net and I will answer any questions you may have. As all card games, it is played with both skill and luck. ~ Linda Mendelson Pan The player with the most wins, 11, for the month of July was Solomon Hayes. Solomon has been a resident since 2006 and retired from a career in sales. He decided on fish for the entrée of the month. Solomon and his wife Thelma have been married for 45 years and they have been a very solid, active couple. They both love to travel to interesting places and sing karaoke music. For over 40 years Solomon has been a DJ for private parties. The player with the most wins for the month of August was Carl Carson. He won a total of 13 games for the month. Carl is married with three adult children — two daughters and one son — and he is a proud grandfather with four grandchildren. Carl has been a resident at Four Seasons since 2006 and is a retired Navy veteran with six years of service. Two years were active duty and he served four years of non-active duty in San Diego. He decided on pizza and chicken wings for the entrée of the month. In addition to playing dominoes Carl enjoys playing card games like canasta and pinochle. Carl is a very unique domino player with an innate ability to foresee and predict the outcome of a game by mentally calculating the other opponents move before they actually make a play. But, just like a fortune teller, sometimes his predictions are off and the game is lost. Playing dominoes with Carl is a great experience. You get to enjoy preferred seating and Carl always has a great joke to tell you to keep you laughing. If you heard the joke before, just go along with it. We are all getting older and forget a lot of things. I am still looking for my eyeglasses that I lost last week. For more information on the domino club, call Jessie at (951) 769 or Reggie at (951) 769-6483. ~ Marvin A. Gaines Dominoes Chavurah & Havdalah Club What a great group we have! We're comprised of many types of individuals who have an interest in sharing our love, knowledge, and interest in Jewish culture, food, entertainment, and social gatherings. Whether you have a long heritage, are married into, want to reconnect, or are curious about Judaism — the backbone of Christianity — we're the group for you. We have no regularly scheduled meetings or happenings, but rather, center our activities around holidays and special events on the calendar. Examples of the activities we've had include a Hava Nagila Movie Night, Chanukah Dinner and Gift Exchange, Passover Get-2-gether, information meetings, Home Tour Event, Harvest Festival Fruit Exchange, etc. Our events are in English, but we interject Hebrew blessings and rituals, and celebrate Havdalah (the end of the Sabbath). We hold are meetings at the Lodge and in private Four Seasons homes. We welcome new members, and look forward to more stimulating activities to celebrate the joy of Judaism. If you are interested in joining our club and sharing your talents, please fill out a form (in the Lobby) and return it to the front desk. We hope to hear from you by emailing chavurah.time@aol. com. For more information, contact Toni Finer or Dr. Zee Knapp directly. ~ Dr. zee Knapp
