Message from the Chairman 12 OUR YUCAIPA | DECEMBER 2014 "Some people wonder all their lives if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem." ~ Ronald Reagan. (This is a very special quote for me, my son- in-law is a Marine.) This is my last message as Chairman of the Board of Directors of our Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce. I've been on the board for almost three years, most of that time as chairman, and I'll be handing over the reins to Nancy Kenny who is ready to start a new beginning with our chamber. Working with our now former CEO Pamela Emenger has been a great experience. The learning curve was huge and I'm sure a great challenge for Pamela but we got through it. The chamber now meets with city officials in an ADHOC meeting to have a better chamber and city partnership. My favorite meeting is the government relations meeting on the last Wednesday of the month. I've learned so much from our group of attendees from local, county, state, DC, AQMD and others. Thank you all for attending and for Bob Miller who mentored me on meeting structure and I look forward to continuing participation. The chamber will have a new President/CEO soon and expectations are high. The challenges will be huge as the board sets new goals for 2015. To exceed the achievements of 2014 will be a challenge. We have the installation of new directors in January, the Music and Arts Festival and the Farmers market starting up again — and that's just the beginning of the year. The chamber will also be reviewing the sign ordinance so we can get the most exposure for your business. Our scholarship program will include new businesses in our town to help them get started and become successful. This is just a sample of the good things to come in 2015. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve in the town of Yucaipa. We have had our home in Yucaipa for over 14 years and our business for over 10. Our two sons graduated from Yucaipa High School. We are so thankful to live in such a wonderful community. I still plan to be very active in all chamber events. This has been a great way to grow our own business, as well as helping other businesses in town meet their own goals. When we reach out to mentor and help others, we end up helping ourselves too. As I have reached out to others, friendships as well as professional relationships have developed. I would encourage all businesses in town to get involved.
