The delegates' sole responsibility is to cast the ballots that elect HOA Board members — a vitally important job, but one that does not take a great deal of time. The new, three-member committee, Don Fant, Louise Lyon and Bev McLaughlin, will be seeking homeowners to run for delegate and alternate delegate from each of eight districts. (See accompanying chart to locate your district.) The alternate acts only in the absence of the delegate. It is important to select delegates carefully, because one or two of them could control the votes that decide the Board election. They act much like members of the Electoral College in U.S. presidential elections with one important difference — delegates from districts that fail to have a majority of homeowners cast ballots can cast all the district's voting power as he or she sees fit. Homeowners interested in serving in this important position are encouraged to get an application from the Lodge desk and submit it before the Jan. 20 deadline. General Manager Jeri Mupo said the schedule for the delegate and Board elections are: Delegate applications in by Jan. 20; delegate election in late January by mail; ballots counted in late February; applications to run for Board in by March 10; meet the candidates forum in early March; Board ballots mailed by March 15 ; ballots opened and tallied on April 14; Annual Meeting and delegates votes cast on April 16. One of the three homeowner seats on the Board will be open in the election — that of Member Loren DuChesne who is serving as Vice President and Secretary. President Jacque Sneddon and Treasurer Wayne Staples each have a year left on their terms. A four-member majority of the Board is appointed by builder K. Hovnanian Homes. That will continue until final build-out, when all seven members will be homeowners. Committee Seeks District Delegate Candidates
