health & spoRts CluBs | sun lakes lIfestyles | deCeMBeR 2014 | 37 Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes After eight weeks things really have really changed. The teams that were tied for first last month have moved down on the list of wins. We now have twenty teams which means that we don't have to bowl against a ghost team. Everyone likes to bowl against someone. Thanks to the Barretts and the Herrings for joining our league. First place has been taken over by team 6 Sweeper Creepers. That is Marlene Gartman, Gail Storms, Larry Storms, and Andy Toro. Five games back in second place is team 16 Killer Kegler with P.P. Garcia, Shirley McDonald, Ed Collarz, and a vacancy. For mens scratch series, Bruce Herwig has high score with 751, Ray Roberson has high handicap series with 760, Andy Toro has high scratch game with 276 and Joe Emma has high handicap game with 265. For the women Gail Stormes has high scratch series with 550, Marty Steggell has high scratch game with 216, Donna Leone has high handicap series with 682 and Sally Brown has high handicap game with 258. Now that is some mighty fine bowling. I must apologize for the mistake I made in last month's article. I thanked Mrs. Frank for stepping up to be Vice President. This was a typo. I wanted to thank Marilyn Tefank for taking that position. Sorry Marilyn. Thanks also for selling those lotto tickets. Some of us are struggling with our game right now, so for those who are, let me tell you the best thing you can do is take a lesson from the pros. Two weeks ago I took a lesson from Norris Runnells and for the next two weeks bowled one of my best series ever. A good instructor can spot what we are doing wrong and tell us how to fix it. He is always ready to give a lesson. The Bowling Alley is the poor man's Country Club. Home Again Bowling After seven weeks in the current 31 week season, Recycled Teens with Dot Lucas, Lisa Park, Al Kaminsky and Jim McCallum are in first place, temporarily, with the Pin Busters two games behind. Yvonne and Gordon Wood, Bridgette and Bob Greb are breathing down the leaders neck, with only a half game lead on third place, The S.O.B.'s composed of Karen and Ray Struchen and Ginger and George Chavez. The standings are too early to predict a first half winner. Competition is fierce with friendly matches each week. Current high averages are - Women - Gail Stormes 168, Karen Struchen 158 and Bridgette Greb 157. Men - George Thiel 206, Bob Greb 203.96 and Bob McLean 203.76. Women's high scratch games - Karen Struchen 222, Bridgette Greb 212 and Gail Stormes 211. Men's high scratch games were rolled by George Thiel 279, Sandy Hepburn 269 and Bob McLean 256. Sun Lakers are inspired by Sandy Hepburn and his happy attitude following recovery from heart surgery! He loves life and we love to see his success! Karen Struchen is another example of successful surgery. The term handicap league refers to a scoring system that makes each bowler perfectly equal to start each match, each week, and has nothing to do with the "sore knees, sore backs and various disabling conditions." We put them aside and try our best! So, lets keep them rolling - good luck and high scoring. Anyone interested in joining Home Again league, please contact Lil McLean at 769-2042.
